I demand pictures of your model railway.

Cheers!

Well the railway was a sore point with the good lady, back to plan B, and having cleared the decks finally got the inspiration to finish the craneblade so it’s off the shelf on the cutting mat waiting for a few parts and a little evening time.

So the parts I needed finally arrived and I can finally start on all the hydraulic line, crane cables and other detailing. Just need to have some steady hands, a couple of hours away from the kids and some patience to get this finished.

Well you were asking for 3 impossibilities, and hoping for them to all come off at once!

Such a fantastic build.

that is true Cam, figure I was pushing my luck and nearly got away with it.

Apologies for the lack of updates of late, I got promoted at work unexpectedly and have had a fair amount of responsibility to get used too which has meant some very long days and plenty of self learning after hours. But it’s not been all work, games workshop were giving free introduction kits away to scouting so have been helping out with the local scouts group giving some Building and painting tips.

Hoping to be a little more productive over the next few months, but who knows

Happy New year all

Well what a year that’s been!!!!!
So having had a rethink on what we are doing with the house I lost my modelling man cave most of my stuff was packed away until the Christmas hols. Having sorted the conservatory out I have found myself a space to dabble once more and have a little update from the last 2 days tinkering. Working on my heavy hauler as, I hate to say it, I misplaced the craneblade,,,, it’s here somewhere but so safe I can’t find it at all
Anyway, rear cab detail coming on and the front is getting there, just need a good idea for the flat front section. Engine deck cover got edging and done some of the rivet work required.

Finally found it !!!!!

After 4 months of looking, while cleaning out the garage ahead of building work I found a box within a box behind and found the craneblade in
Starting on the main body paint fine detail as well as some of the accessories while I remember what I was intending to do next with the cranes...

So main crane got some work today,, main cables set to length and needed to add some additional hydraulic system for the the grab claws so added some detail to the side of the main hook block. represent the oil tank/pump and control gear. Still working out how the fallen knight should look but have given the shoulders a bit of heat abuse to get the beaten and battered feel.

Evening all,,

After a 2 year forced break due to work and family commitments, finally have the mental space to pick up the scalpel, ruler and plasticard and pick up old projects… so the first one that’s got the spark going is my space orbital hauler engine assembly, scratch building, plumbing bits and also rummaging through the bits box’s for anything I think will work. So what started as a blank yesterday afternoon, now has a good chunk of the main detail in,,,,Now you guys always say more rivet detail which will follow once I have all the panels lines out and know where they are needed,,

Slow but rewarding, have started on the rivet detail for the engine mounts, and some of the structural supports,,, about 150 done tonight before my hands gave up,,,

Impressive as always- your level of detail is off the charts! And it's not a question of sticking rivets just everywhere, each one of them is in exactly a realistic position and give an air of verisimilitude that is very realistic.

Rock on!

Thanks meer cat had complete lost interest till a week ago,,,,

So this module is nearing completion, couple of little bits of piping and rivets needed internally but need to assembly it all first,, external details coming on on the rear with both engine seals now having full bolt detail and simulated panel reinforcers added,, pencil marks at the bottom are for the location of some small vents but really don’t think it needs anything else at present,,,,,, threw in a skitarii figure to give an idea of scale,,

Thanks skinflint,,,,
Just when I thought I was starting to run out of ideas for details my daughter remarked on the fact that the side panels had nothing on them,,,,, so built some hydronic rams for the access panels along with piston controls and internal wiring with basic junction box, nothing too complex as majority will be quite hidden once assembled but didn’t want to leave it completely blank.
Usual construction in platicard with the thin bands and cable clips made with tin foil( steady hand required as it tears al too easy)

So calling this build done for now,,,
Changed the top as it was originally going to be flat but it just looked all wrong,, messing with some interior lighting options and hoping once painted inside and out there will not be too much light bleed through the sides. May also tone the brightness down a bit with a bit of ink on the led and reducing the power supplied but for now,,, on to something else,,,,

Cheers Guarding,,,,

So last night and this evening started on the crew entrance/exit doorway and rather that the usual closed, slidable or open aperture I wanted to try something different. As my earlier post show I like my models to be able to move and be pose-able so have built a folding door with steps that operates,,, very much w.i.p and still trying to work out the best place on the ship for this, as I have no defined plan.

Thanks Skinflint. I just like to detail things

Moving on to the landing gear and started with the skid foot,,, this is proving trickier than I thought to get the components to fit and work in the way I want,,, but I think I have it right now… still not sure if the folding sides are too big and may need reducing a bit,,the main leg will be next and think I will be looking to imperial knight legs for inspiration.

Some nice steady progress over the weekend despite working on ripping out a hedge as well!!! Decided the best place for the landing gear was to go was next to the door so have started on some of the external panel form as well as detailing the interior to represent a cabin with bed and hygiene unit built from styrene ( think firefly, serenity and you won’t be far off), still need a little desk and maybe some shelves,,,, My daughter has insisted it needs a kitchen and a “lounge” like the millennium falcon dad!!! So trying to figure out how that will work,,,

Awesome skills and a great looking tank.

You know you're onto something when you buy a knight just to turn it into a wreck for your recovery vehicle!
