We both put in a lot of hard work yesterday. Kirkee spent the day cutting, painting and inserting pane by pane of marble to the senate building.
I put in just as much elbow grease with less impressive results.
Every level of the hab towers require a ton of modifications just to fit together. After casting them, the pieces all have to be ground down due to being surface molds, then just to get them to line up I have to hit them with a heat gun for awhile, then they get vicegripped and glued. I also have to add a layer of posterboard between each level to keep them level and to have something to glue to.
After making the buildings forms I then have to go back in and hide all the ugly stuff. Here’s a picture of the posterboard and Plasticard going into the spaces created on every level from the upside down roof idea (totally regretting btw). You can see the difference if you look at the lowest level
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also a random picture of me looking at the back corner of the board judging the hieghts of the new buildings and trying to decided if we need more variation

I know its super late into the process, but have you considered casting the eight sided tower levels in quarters or halves? You could either cast them as a facade or as solid blocks, then cut out the interior as needed.. You might find expanding foam easier to work with as a material:
https://chicagoterrainfactory.wordpress.com/2015/09/28/cargo-container-casting/
If and when I get around to copying your work here, I'll be aiming for building and casting one quarter of an octogonal building and then pumping out a lot of them to make levels. On a 'ruined' tower i might carve out an interior and damage for the top level only and then model supports for the missing layers going up and stairs going down into the rest of the structure.
A quarter has the advantage over a half that you can insert spacers (doors vents, tanglkes of pipes and wires) between the quarters for variety on the ground and upper levels.

So I really didn’t think we were ready for paint and this is just a couple of base coated buildings but the paint is really helping me see how much closer to completion some of these building are
the Bastion is primed in army painter uniform grey then the interior was also airbrushed lightly with a watered-down silver
(I should also note that the outside facing of all the buildings and the entire diorama will be cleaned up as the very last step with poster board. So all this ugly foam board below will be covered much later)
The landing pad was first spray painted in gunmetal
But I ran out and then we decided it was too lite of a color for the base and gun metal would be a better dry brush layer later. So kirkee recovered it in a slightly sparkly black
Here are some group shots. You will see we also painted two of the buildings. 1 grey which had to be airbrushed because it’s half styrofoam and spray paint would melt. So that took forever
We also base painted the triangle building brown, even though we still have to add another two levels to it

Got a little work done on one of my heavy weapons teams. Modeling these guys is a lot more work than I anticipated. I had to come up with new arm/hand combos for almost each dude because of the fact that unlike most of their brothers in arms, none of these guys are pointing rifles at anything
Automatically Appended Next Post: In the back ground you can also see the start of my massed produced marching squad. Not sure how many of these I’ll actually do.
How do you think I should model the sergeant? One hands on a chai sword hilt, sword raised, is there such thing as a hand symbol Aquila, flag? And what about the other hand?

Bigger is better
Before
Beginning of new taller version
Before
Beginning of the new much wider river
Automatically Appended Next Post:
The reason we extended the river wasn’t just to add 2 months to our build but rather to address the fact that a majority of the table had become unplayable or reachable unless you had crazy monkey arms like me (which was still hard). So 3/4 of the river will actually be open in a U shape so people can walk into the middle of the board to play and reach models. It’s about 26” wide and we think that should be enough room for one person
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here’s a couple more pics of the expansion of the flatiron building too. It’s going to be a pretty cool sniper den now with a firesescape to get up to the blown out section, some stairs to the roof and even an open door open to the bridge between the buildings soon to come

I'm a little concerned that the river is wide enough that you can have guardsmen standing on either side, unable to shoot each other due to range.
The risk with a gulf like this in the middle is that it becomes the battlefield- if you have one or two chokepoints then all the lovely work you have done on either side will effectively see no play.
The battlefield 2142 map suez canal handled this by placing it as an end level goal for one team, allowing the river bed to be navigated instead of the bridge, but also allowing infantry to cross the bridge above and below the 'road', allowing for an interesting multilevel battle or infiltration beyond just tanks fighting on the bridge.
This smaller map version above narrows the conflict to the bridge itself.
I'm interested to see how this plays out and wish you the best!

As for what =Angel= said, I think it's fine as it is now. If you're worried about choke points, you could add another bridge or two... or three.

Yeah, it will definetly create some interesting scenarios, hopefully some fun. The total width of the river is approximately 37-40” so very few infantry models are going to pack that kind of range and I am expecting to see quite a few failed charges.
Even my Vostroyan army and their Heirloom Weapons are going to have a hard time but there will still be 4 different places to cross the river. There will still be the 2 large east bridges you see above but we are also keeping the monorail track which Im Expecting to be used and the lower west man bridge. Both will just need to put in hinges
Old image
In regards to having the river bed dry, that won’t really work with the cut out and I really want the fake water for the diorama. As you might have seen there is still 2” of base going along both canal walls where we will still pour that so people can tell it’s obviously a river.

Those are awesome!
Another idea that just crossed my mind: you could have a barge or something moored alongside the river bank, which'd make the river slightly narrower at that point.

Thanks Gourde, that 17 pages is about 1.5 years of our life. This project moves pretty slow given its scope and the fact we only get about one weekend every other week to work on it.
Doesn’t look like much but kirkee did a little work on the flatiron last night
And I worked on glueing the first hab tower pieces together. Ignore the base, that’s just to hold it in place.

Hey guys,
I posted this question in painting and modeling but thought I would throw it on here too
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/759943.page#10052497
Need some advice on building a Retinue for Eisenhorn for killteam (I know I’m getting ahead of myself) or normal 40k to go along with my IG/Sisters army and the new Eisenhorn model.
I think this has come up before but looking for direction and updates. I’m lookin for GW models for conversions and what actual troop/squad choice they would be able to represent. Here’s some info and pics from the internet
Besides Ravenor and Cherubael, Eisenhorn maintained the following. Also my memory on the fluff is a little scattered so if anyone could help me remember which characters don’t overlap that would be appreciated too
First would be Godwyn Fischig: Former chastener in the Adeptus Arbites, I’ll probably find an old arbiters model for him and add a can I. To his shoulder?
The next biggie is elizabeth Bequin, a Blank, with an attribute that nullifies the effects of psychic or daemonic effects in her vicinity. What model can do this and what did Elizabeth normally wear? A body glove or something more exotic?
What about Midas and/or Medea Betancore: they were pilots of Eisenhorn's personal gun-cutter. Was thinking Elysian drop troop models
Harlon Nayl: was a Former mercenary and bounty hunter I think. He supposed to be big with a shaved head and a board glove. I thought about one of the new or old house van Saar models with a catachan head swap
Kara Swole is referred to as a former circus acrobat who was hired by Eisenhorn. Constantly described as "voluptuous" - I have no ideas there or what weapon load outs

To help her fit into the group the acrobat could be one of the female Van Saar figs. Or use one of the Caladus assassins. While not overly voluptuous, they have the curves and are in scale.

I haven’t bought any of the Necromunda stuff. Waiting for them to get all the rules in one place and not nickel and dime me. But I believe that statuesque miniatures probably would have some lovely female heads that would work. There’s also female troopers in the Sedition Wars game which could also work for you.
