My last game had some fun in it! It was a kind of sort of game of AoS except not because i was playing with my six year old nephew and we kept things pretty casual

Also it was about heroic ogres rescuing turtles from the clutches of evil ghosts

Spoiler:

The ogres were triumphant, saving six turtles and only accidentally devouring two.

In all honesty it was a blast. I might turn it into a campaign. A turtle campaign.

So I last played in an Apoc game that was about a critical bridge on Armegeddon. We (the Imperium) Lost on Objectives by the end. We were entirely too conservative and didn't have enough deep striking units.

First picture is bottom of Turn 1. The works invaded our right flank with fliers and warp powers to get on our side. They did some damage before we finally killed them all.

Second picture is towards the end of the game (Turn 4 maybe) where we finally are pushing the bridge but it's too late. Most of my army actually Survived and sadly my Silver Skulls elites never even got into the Action. My Tanks (desert colored Tigers) did some work and my backfield infantry did their job and died to the flankers.

Got some BFG in for a change, spitballed some demo scenarios for an upcoming convention and tried a 600-700 point game where the nids are coming to eat a backwater listening post before it gets a warning off. Good fun, first game the nids crippled and nommed the enemy gunboats off and went to town on the objective whereas the second outing was brutally decided by the admiral Tyrant, who had had enough of this nonsense and singlehandedly ripped 9 points of damage from the hiveship, which then ran into some torpedoes and died blushing in embarrasment.

Demoing some Boltgun Action (40k with alternating actions) while on a vacation. Space Wolves smacked my cultists around like wet potatoes while my deep striking terminators went in to kill their Hellblasters and lost 4/5 guys in the immediate countercharge by the Gravis captain. The last guy survived the whole game though, taking the captain and one lieutenant out while at it

Finally got to get a game in after a fairly long Hiatus. Played another player who also hadn't gotten a game in months and enjoyed the crazy experience of two marine armies facing each other, with all the failure to penetrate each other armor that entails:

My deathwatch deployed and seized the center of the board, sacrificing bikers and intercessors for space and buying time for my dreadnoughts to teleport it. Unfortunatly I 1) forgot two units in reserves and 2) made some rookie mistakes in what I did deploy. My opponent made a pretty good castle with his devestators and his death company (his old marines were blood angels) managed to soak up a lot of firepower. In the end I wasn't able to clear all the death company from my deployment zone and lost of VP. It was good to roll dice again.

A playtest for a dungeon crawl project....this picture, showing a wounded Dwarf and Warrior turning tail and fleeing upon confronting the Objective Room sums up the afternoon pretty well.

Spoiler:

Elf: Devoured by ravenous ghouls.
Wizard: Turned into paste by a Stone Golem.
Dwarf: Devoured by spiders only feet from the exit.
Warrior: Drinking himself into a stupor in the tavern...

So much for that party.

The story was the Tyranids wanted to destroy this enchanted woodland to increase their biomass while the Necrons wanted to destory this magical forest because they hate all life.

Technically not the last game I played as I played two more game of Kill Team (Primaris (me) vs. Tyranids and Orks (me) vs. Thousand Sons), but I forgot to take more pictures. This was Necrons (me) vs. Tyranids game with a custom mission of each player has two objectives they place along their long board edge but no closer than 3" to the short board edges. First player to have one of their units within 2" of either of their opponent's objective while not having an enemy unit also within 2" wins.

The Necrons won via a the same strategy I use when I play Necrons, overwhelm the enemy with numbers tarpitting them in melee while the extra units are free to capture objectives. The Tyranids couldn't do much damage against my Flayed Ones (center) while my Warriors slowly moved getting RF most times eventually wearing down the Genestealers at range.

Played a day full of Betrayal at Calth, trying out a modified version of mission VII with demons spawning all over. This will be a part of a narrative weekend full of imperium vs. tyranids action. First game as written (a brutal, brutal game that ended at the wire when the last brave terminator fell right before almost winning the game) and then finetuning the mission to work with homebrew'd human soldiers mentally enslaved by the hive mind. A tad less than 3:1 ratio seemed to work nicely for weaker troops.

I didn't get all the way through the Battle at Calth campaign, but I always wanted to. I thought system was pretty good and well worth expanding. Kinda a shame it didn't even make it into even the next 30k boxed game. Still, I am glad it still gets played.

Can recommend it, mission IV is where the game really starts to shine (two boards, both sides attack on one and defend on the other). It is a shame GW rarely expands beyond the box for these types of games, but hey, Hewitt had to work on Titanicus afterwards ;P

It is a semi-regular game for me, as well as a nice demo game in conventions for people who might not be miniature gamers yet. With the core being as simple as it is, it's also relatively easy to expand on yourself. For an example here we wanted to use some lighter troops than astartes so we thought "let's use my militia as all stats 1 (opposed to the marines' 2) guys with one dice guns that may crit for extra shots, say they fit five in a hex instead of three and have heavy stubbers (ruleswise combibolters) as special weapons" and tried it out a couple of times, in the end concluding that it's better if they are four to a hex and had much fun with 10 marines taking on 28 little guys while the place was swarming with chaotic, milling deathbugs. Had a blast.
