Ah ok, well the best value to get started is with the Pellenor box. If you're interested in Rohan, Mordor or Dunharrow, then it's a no brainer as you're getting the rulebook as well.

If not then you'll want the rulebook and then either Armies of Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit depending on your army choice. Ignore the supplements for now and just focus on those two books.

In terms of models, you'll probably want two boxes of troops and either a command pack or character of your choice. That should get you going well enough.

Yay for Dwarves!

I like the old Dain better, but Yay for Dwarves! Hopefully some more plastics come along with this. Easterlings need plastic dragon warriors and dwarves could really use a plastic version of Iron/Khazard Guard.

I hope they stay away from the ridiculous Hobbit-esque dwaven cavalry. I like my dwarves with their feet firmly on the ground thank you very much.

Ironfoot was one of my favorite parts of the Hobbit trilogy. Might pick him up for my Oathmark army.

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

LOTR dwarves(dwarfs?) are so superior to most other dwarves(dwarfs?) in style. They actually have legs for a start, unlike old WHFB ones

This looks like it might be a good excuse to get some

Both iterations are correct.
Dwarfs is the the "proper" English spelling. Dwarves is how Tolkien chose to spell it and it is also correct.

Old Dain and Thorin III preorder next week!

Old Dain and Thorin III's rules are up with the pre-order. Taking either of them changes the Iron Hills keyword to Erebor and Garrison of Dale can be taken as Historical Allies but you can't take the deceased members of Thorin's Company.

The Alliance box sneakily confirms Brand and Bard II are coming also, although the former's not a surprise.

Neat. Looking forward to getting a look at Brand and Bard. Although I would like to know when the actual book is due.

A little stuff disappearing, a lot of good stuff returning. Hopefully the stuff that was originally released in metal, returns in metal.

If you read the last sentence of this article you'll see GW is preparing something new hopefully related to the War of the north

Bugger. Should probably pick these up while I can.

Really keen for the return of all the woodelf stuff. Both the unarmoured captain and armoured captain calling out are rare as hens teeth.
I shudder to think of the price you'll pay for those spiders though. The Hobbit Mirkwood spiders are stupidly expensive ($60AUD for 2!). Having a mix pack as the only way to get the old version of spiders is not at all encouraging. Also not entirely sure why they say the Castellans are returning. They're already available, albeit as a two pack instead of 3.

Also, has anyone else received their MTO stuff from January? Mine is still pending. I know they said to allow 180 days, which would make it roughly the 20th of July a month away, but I thought maybe the odd order would have trickled out by now to people.

Received mine months ago. Bit odd that it's taking so long for you, but as you said, not quite out of the fulfillment period

If I remember correcetly, they had stock enough for a bunch of first-in best-dressed orders, and then everyone who was too slow would have to wait until they restocked. So maybe yours was one of them? I know I dillydallied a bit (and then forgot to add Murin and Drar to the order! ) so I would have missed out on that initial run.

I'd split my order in half, one the morning it went up and one the day before it ended, and they arrived within a few days of each other. It all still arrived unusually quickly given my expectations from earlier MTOs, so it may have just been extremely coincidental that the second half was low demand items that they still had in stock. Might be worth shooting a message to customer service though, with old Blood Bowl stuff having a run this weekend. Wouldn't be the first time they've overlapped MTOs, but better to check in sooner rather than later.

On another note, I'm hoping the repackaged Galadrim command sets have all reverted back to metal like the Isengard command sets did when they were redone. The resin versions are not pretty.

Now this is how you manage your game system properly. "They will be disappearing". "No worries, they WILL be back sometime in the future". No one panics, no one gets angry.

War in the North book will definitely be covering Mirkwood then if the article is anything to go by?

Curious how LOTR is so well managed and communicated compared to 40k

Probably because there are people who actually care about the game and love doing so. Not some random interns with random visions, who come and leave after few years.

That's not a bad idea actually. Even if they're not dispatching them yet, it'd be nice to know they're still on top of it.

I had a problem like this a few months ago, where a single out of stock item held up an order for two months. Genuinely thought it had gotten lost or something, but nope. The out of stock item meant the order got pushed back in the packing queue and since the item went out of stock after the order was placed it fell through some cracks.

The current 2 pack is two random sculpts out of three. The repack is all three sculpts in a pack, so you're not like "I ordered three packs and got three each of pose A and B and none of C!"

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

Which is nice(says guy that ran into that issue with royal guard).

Also repack to bigger size might reduce price per model. Wouldn't be first.

Well, guess woodelfs make sense given the upcoming war in the north...but I hope the next wave finally brings the missing moria goblin range back. Although I have so much stuff to paint and my Moria army is just a side-side-sideproject but still.

I'd be surprised if the next wave isn't the mounted War Priest, the missing Khand sculpts, Captain of Dale, some other Hobbit sculpts than went OOP. If they're covering Mirkwood and potentially Lothlorien as well as Dale/Erebor it's looking like a pretty jampacked book already.

Man I really hope to se new Dale profiles - and not only heroes - for this nice faction, something like what they did for Dunlendings would be awesome.

Golfimbul seems extremely popular - I had a "back in stock" email at 5am, by the time I was awake and followed the link at 8am, he was sold out again!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Almost immediately after I posted that, I got another "back in stock" email, I have now secured him and Bandobras Took, which were all the models left I needed to work through the old Scouring of the Shire book (one of these days)
