I fear a mat may push the bundle out of my price range,

but hopefully they'll be an opportunity to get the plastic without it even if it is in the PM

I’ve asked what material the mats are if they are just paper they shouldn’t bump the price too much if they are neoprene do you need multiples of the same with a grid? Give them feedback in the comments they did add a cheaper set to Rampart 3 based on feedback.

I'd be really surprised if it was a neoprene as that would set these boxes to getting pretty close to $100 at retail which I don't see as something that will sell well. Also folding the neoprene down to fit that will put some heavy creases in which isn't good for the material.

Neoprene potentially adds a lot to shipping. I wonder if the inclusion is to cut down on multiple base pledges.

I'd settle for a durable paper mat. Or sets of paper tiles. Or a game board.
I like what they've shown so far. I'm quite adverse to printing a lot of scenery as it means less resin for printing dudes and monsters.
Plus I always fear the durability of the resin pieces versus some chonky plastic stuff.

Wonder if this campaign will have as prolific piles of miniatures as the last one did.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

> But sci-fi doesn't fit like that, not all "futuristic" settings are the same or are compatible unfortunately.

Yep. I think Warhammer 40K's the only major sf gaming setting out there, and that's (sorta) covered by Rampart. (And, of course, there are "empty space" game mats, for X-Wing, Armada, Star Trek, and other space ship combat.) The sf RPG market doesn't have anything approaching D&D and Pathfinder. While there's no generic fantasy miniatures game system that's as large as Warhammer 40K, I'm sure if you added them all together (from Song of Blade and Heroes to Frostgrave), you'd have enough generic fantasy to support Encounters. (Most sf, btw, is IP-based.)

Mantic did post-apoc terrain, since it had the Walking Dead IP at the time. But, while zombies are on the sf side, I doubt many D&L backers who want SF were wanting just barricades and corrugated steel.

Pretty obviously, with "Encounters", Archon's going after the "Dungeons and Lasers" brand name, and not the modular game tile system. Heck, you could argue that there won't be any dungeons, much less lasers, in this offering.

> I’ve asked what material the mats are

I posted about the sets having a paper mat, and the neoprene is an add-on. or something to that effect. Also, I've asked about 3x3 mats as well, as 3x3 is common for miniature skirmish.

Should speculate that, with swamps, Archon could go the Dwarven Forge route of making the swamp as "negative space" by printing the water on the mat then adding the 3D rocks as the riverbanks, instead of the conventional grass gaming table and placing the 3D rivers and lakes on top of that. I'm linking to DF's game mats with 3D elements, and including in this post a pic how they did the swamp set. https://cx.dwarvenforge.com/pledges/

Oh, and it looks like Archon's shoved all the rocks and trees into one of the sets for those who don't want either. Hopefully, Archon will offer a tree-set add-on, as trees, iirc, were the most popular terrain in the Mantic KS.

Yeah, for the moment all I'm really interested in are the trees, and potentially some of the minis, now that I know the scale of them is good for frostgrave.

Looks like the mats are neoprene in that case I hope there is an option to get sets without mats - don’t want to pay any extra shipping for something that’s of limited use to me especially with the grid and possibly in multiples.

Afaik neoprene but will confirm in next few days.

I'm just here for the trees. I hope there is an option to pick up a pledge with a lot of trees.

Yeah, much as I like neoprene game mats gridded mats are of no use to Mrs. GG and me. But I suppose there is always eBay to offload elements surplus to requirements.

That's such an annoying extra step. If the neoprene are mandatory I'll just skip buying anything at all. I've already got a good selection of them and gridded maps would never get used at my table.

Looking at this image, that mat does not look like any neoprene I have access too.
The way it folds up at the corners/edges looks more like something thinner and more rigid.

Of course no guarantee that this will be the final product etc but I am not getting the neoprene vibe.

That’s Dwarvenforge not Archon Ced just used it as an example of “negative space”

Stephen posted a comparison shot, against other miniature lines.

I've used the Z:BP Necromancer on the tabletop and didn't notice it being smaller than other figures, even next to some Reaper Bones figures.

"A little size comparison between some minis I had on hand with the Lich, the Witch Hunter and Pepe. As far as I can tell they are the same size/scale as the minis from the Bloodborn Boardgame and Gloomhaven. The Zombicide BP minis are 32mm true scale AFAIK, so they are slightly bigger overall. Pepe and the D&L Dragons are really big which is awesome. I think for my purposes as a D&D DM the D&L minis will work fine. Having slightly bigger Heros is probably not bad. (I have like 52 Zombicide Heros, so my Players choose from those, D&L minis will be NPCs and enemys)

Okay, time to complain about bundling the neoprene mat if it jacks up the price too much.

Dude clearly has space marines but he'll rather throw random crap in the shot like anyone is supposed to know or care how D&L scales with something called a Xenomoth

I think you'll find that everything in England is now measured in Xenomoths. Yet another Brexit benefit

The UK coming back to the fine tradition of measuring things by any unit as long as it's not Metric that the US has kept alive.

This was basically my thought as well, how this was one of the most unhelpful scale pictures I'd ever seen.

I wish everyone had just one kairic acolyte, storm cast, and Empire state trooper/cadian to show off scale.

These are RPG miniatures and GW sizes means nothing for the majority of those players.

Despite how popular they supposedly are, I have never met anyone with zombiecide, gloomhaven, or the darksouls games...

Edit: and I'm only an RPG player and mini collector. I've only ever flirted with playing GW games.

He didn't put in a Reaper or a Wizkids Deep Cuts mini either.

To be honest I doubt most RPG players even care what other lines look like and aren't as anal about scale.

This is all pretty /r/choosingbeggers to be honest.

I think Ruins might just be short hand for the Land of the Giants set. They have a large domed structure on the map.

A new graphic has been added showing a stag and mushroom people with mention of an Ent. Neoprene mat confirmed (in 2 parts??)

Welp that confirms the neoprene. I'll have to wait to see what the actual purchase options are but I'm not going to pay for an expensive mat that I don't need.

That's how I feel about it to. I'm really sad, as I was hoping to get my hands on some of this stuff, but shipping to Taiwan is very likely to be entirely unreasonable. (Though I guess if it's coming from Poland there's a chance it'll just be bad, and not horrendous like it would be from the states)
