Not where I should be

Well this is my Orkishness blog.

Please do not expect any kind of sensible here, it has grown and the community have given me so much to add to it. There is everything here Orky. I will compile a shortcuts list before too long.

Many years ago I started an Ork army, and have never really given up, this is now many years on and several incarnations later. The one thing you will not find here is anything close to a cohesive army. I believe the "Rules" are wrong on that. In my universe 2 armies are never equal when they meet, in my universe the Ork Horde is made of many different factions all under one WAAAAGH! I am primarily a modeller and have not played in years really, but I do kind of lean toward the various codex archetypes, so you will find bands of boys and bike squads, and eventually Dakka Jets, but you will also find many things which are very unique, and would struggle to be "counts as". My Orks make things to work, not to conform to some specific size/shape/design/colour. And my Orks can't put a rivet (I really love rivets!) but they can't put Rivets in a straight line if there life depended on it.

So welcome to my silly little blog.

Warboss Thunderfarter da turd.

The beginning....

So I have been at this a long time and this is the third incarnation of Thunderfarter.

First was pre-digital photography so no records.

Second was this lot.

Not where I should be

Those quite quick among you will notice 2 sets of AOBR orks. Thus I wondered what the heck I was doing purchasing a 3rd box set the other day, but the Vastly reduced price the guy let me have it for due to Dark Vengence, I could not resist.

So now I have 20 more ork boys all the same as the last, but this time I am inspired, ( thank you Arakasi. Whose blog I read just a few days ago and have been inspired to stop knocking out barely painted models and start making cool deffkoptas and Killakans that stomp on stuff.) Now I will convert the clone troopz to look different, to fullfil a new task.

So 5 bodies where used to use up the Burner boy arms left in the loota pack.

Then to convert 9 boyz to shootas. (pics follow this)

My big failing and possibly bonus, for need creates inspiration, is I can not wait. I have ordered materials to make guns and convert models, but they will take too long!!!!! So instead I root around and find some small bits of this and that. I have read the amazing work some people have done making models from round tube and styrene boards, and will shortly be trying it. But the shootas are in my head now, and I must do them, NOW.

So some motherboard mounting bolts, a few drinking straws, some superglue and a bit of masking tape, followed by liberal coats of paint and this lot appeared.

[Thumb - 101_0005.JPG]

[Thumb - 101_0009.JPG]

This is cool I like the flashyness of your waaagh. Nothing better than lots of color on orks.

Not where I should be

Thank you for replies.

I think orks should look grungy and rust around the edges, but no self respectin boyz is going to battle without a fresh lick of paint is dah??

And I love some of the old models, the kommandoes Got repainted with desert camo, as they is now proper sneeky gits, as apposed to the silly old days of bright red or blue.

I believe the one most important thing that every one seems to forget about orks is they are not stupid lumbering nitwits. But a race who do nothing but fight. They do not live to conquer or to have dominion over they do not wish to play political games all they do is fight. Ofcourse their weapons are sometimes a little crude, but it makes them no less effective. Orks dont waste time on social graces or anything all they do is fight, And worst of all, the ones you will probably meet in battle will be the ones who are very good at it.

So a few more pics of the models,

First some of the boys with the converted shootas,

Then a few of the deffkopta conversion and its base. This is currently getting a slight remodel as one of the kids accidently knocked it over and has managed to do some damage, which I am in the process of right know.....

It is an oath we honour. Ok so heres a WIP,

Decided to have my Big Mek in a trukk all his own. And inspired by Arakasi he will have a retinue in the trukk.

Being a Big Meks trukk it has to be a tow trukk right?

So here are some pics of wip on this trukk

Thank you guys for your support, was beginning to think I was all alone. lol

So christmas and all been a bit busy but here is a bit of an update and a question for you.

The question is do I go with the tracks on the back of the trukk, or should I go with some wheels?

Have a look and let me know what you think.....

Tracks look good - but you may need to go larger perhaps?

How big is that thing? Looks like you could tow another Trukk, a Battlewagon, half a Dreadnought, or some other Imperial vehicle/tank...

Not where I should be

Thank you for reply.

Well here are some size comparison shots.

The idea behind it was that it should be able to drag a landraider off the battle field. To be made proper orky like back at the workshop. But should only really be a trukk. That can transport himself and his grots. All whom I plan on actually fitting onto it in battle, as opposed to the usual affair of a rather small trukk saying it can get hundreds of orkses into the back? I have always thought GW trukks very small.

The tracks are a bit small for my liking and I am having doubts, they are landraider tracks, the set from each side minus the longest piece, put together on custom side plates. Maybe loose them and use them on grot tank project I hope to get going, and either make bigger track set or use some wheels??

Cheers

Lots of interesting conversions in here, I particularly like the kan stomping marine and the arterial spurt from the kopta buxsawed marine. Those just look cool and give lots of character.

On the tow truck : Its looking pretty plain right now, set it next to the truck you scratch built to see what I mean. I think the tow truck could use some more random plates, and of course Rivets! That will orky up anything!

I rofled pretty good when I saw the Deff Kopta. Excellent work. You've really got a characterful horde, that is of course, not big enough.

Maybe, theres loads of things you could make this into but i think the best thing to do would be to make it into something you will use often . ive got a custom stompa thats 890 points but i never get to play it which sucks. make what you will get to play with or that you will enjoy.

You see when you have millions of orks to try and get onto a deploymentzone the size of a postage stamp, guns sticking out sidey ways is a pain footprint is eveything, so stick the guns in the air!!! stand more chance of hitting something anyways (BS2)

Also get fed up with the arguments about LOS. " I can see his barrel sticking out??!!!"

Why do people think models actually stand behind a wall with one arm sticking out, so the whole world can see where they are??

Not where I should be

So update

Back at it after hectic holidays finally getting in aty my models..

So heres the trukk, bit of work done

Thnking about front end, I fancy a bit of a pointy snow plow thing but not sure if that will just be too much. It will make it very big, its big enough now. (see earlier size comparison.)

Also liking the idea of making it a junka rather than just a trukk, more fire power. But in truth I have an idea in my head of grots hanging on top of the uprights firing big shootas.

Your thought would very much be appreciated..
