Hello Dakkarites,

I am currently looking at starting up my Dark Eldar army again. I am wanting to get some beast squads going as I like the idea of them and have found a good alternative for the bird flocks. What I want to ask you all is are there some good alternatives for the Khymera?

I really do not like the GW ones (design, although the price for what you get is no winner either) and wanting to know what others use or would use a good substitutes.

I made some up for a DE playing mate out of some LOTR wargs, some leftover gaunt scythe talons (and a 3mm drill bit to make some holes) and some GS.

I got the wargs in a bag of bits and didn't want them. Another clubmate donated the scythe arms.

Or those warp hound thing Warriors of Chaos can get. Painted right and maybe with a few bone/tentacle things they can look fantastic.

As my Dark Eldar have a Drow theme, I use these elegant Displacer Beasts (D&D Miniatures, OOP):


There are also metal miniatures, but usually too expensive:

My buddy uses the old warp beasts from 3rd ed DE. They look good painted up right and he says you can pick them up cheap on ebay.

I just had the metal chaos hounds.

Fenrisian wolves, greenstuff and tyranid bits.

VC Dire wolves could work.

VC Dire wolves with chaos spawn's tentacley bits, and green stuff. Bought chaos spawn for grotesques conversion, so got extra bits left over.

Thanks guys, some great ideas there. I got a ton of left over Nids bits so I may work up some wolves and green stuff.

I used the Fantasy hounds and a bit of Greenstuff.

for sure. aside from using the actual GW ones, (apologies my last post got sent only in part... didnt realize untill just now)

but i just used the plastic dire wolves. didnt even need to really add anything, as they are the same size, and look sort of "warpified" already. some creative paint and your golden. plus you get 10 in a box.
