Thank you all for looking and your comments.
The gun uses the two part ammo system, shell loaded first followed by the powder charge in the case and yes I dug up some suitably sized cartridge cases. The loader is operating what passes for a 'auto-loader'. He dumps a shell or case into the loading tray and it is rammed home by a grot.

How much of this model is actual metal parts? to me it looks as if you've made it almost entirely of real metal, but it may just be that you're good at making plastic look like metal.

LOVE it! The overall build is great, but there are lots of specific, seamlessly incorporated details that really add to the functional plausibility - the cannon loading system/operator, the chain drive on the deffrolla(s), the shocks on its supporting arms, the hydraulic hoses under the turret rotating mechanism, etc. - those are what really take it to that next level, for me.
The paintjob also looks great, overall. Lots of characterful, colorful looted panels, but it's not a blinding mess that keeps you from seeing the model's overall lines. The russet finish on the lower portions looks great. The crew is really the only area where the quality dips. I'm not a huge fan of high-contrast Ork skin, bat that's simply a matter of taste - it's the spotty/patchy highlights that irk me. A few more coats to smooth and fill those out would do wonders. There's also one rather noticeable shift line on those green (fuel?) tanks, but I honestly wouldn't bother with it, at this point.
So, not quite perfect, but still a seriously awesome piece. Your scrap-fu is strong.

I will take that as a compliment! The gun barrel and boiler and cases are metal as well as some small bits of wiring and piping, the rest is bashed up plastic kit parts, junk plastic and Evergreen styrene. I use real chain on all of my 'creations' and usually use metal tubing for gun barrels.
I prime the plastic and then lay down metallic coats of gunmetal and rust and paint and then start washing with blackish brown and just mess around until I am happy with the effect. I use laquers and acrylics for layers that I want to stay and enamels for layers that I want to mess with. A bit of high-lighting and it is done. Pretty quick if you say it fast! Thank you. I have 25 years of parts etc. to play with, took me about five weeks to complete in my spare time. Automatically Appended Next Post: oadie wrote:LOVE it! Thank you for your comments. Strangely enough the patchy, grotty Ork hide is what I go for most of the time. The seam on the tanks I put down as part of the crude, throw away war time construction. hah hah!

Superb Orkyness! Mega Kudos on a awesome build.
One suggestion--Consider putting a splash of dirty wash over the ork gun checkerboard and totem shields. They look too clean for a Ork vehicle.
But, again awesome!

Thank you and well noticed, but I did it that way on purpose. I tried to have 'older parts' and some newly patched parts and paint as you would find on a used vehicle that is constantly evolving. Notice that part of the armour on the left roller arm has been shot away and a 'new' buffer spring fitted to replace the 'damaged' one (this is hard to see on the finished model because of the hanging chain armour but the right side buffer is 'old and rusty'). The armour on the right main leg has also been shot off. The armoured access ladder has been 'freshly' painted. I was going to put a grot with a pollishing rag on the gun barrel but decided to leave that idea for another time. It is their pride and joy, they would want to take care of it.
