On top of a mountain.

I recently purchased a pair of Broadsides from Forgeworld and they came with 60mm bases as opposed to the 40mm base that a regular Broadside is mounted on.
The rules state that they were written assuming models are mounted on the base they are supplied with. The two different Broadsides are identical from a gameplay perspective.
So we have two different versions of the model each with a different base size.
So I ask you, Dakka:
Would you be okay with facing Broadsides on 60mm bases(that they came with)?
Would you call it modelling for an advantage?
Would it be accepted in a tournament?

1) I would have no issue with facing Broadsides on 60mm base

2) I would not call it MFA

3) Only the TO knows the answer to this one.

With bigger bases, the only time it could be considered modelling for advantage is if you have an ability that affects models in base contact or at a specific distance (for instance, Gabriel Seth's whirlwind or a Big Mek's KFF). In all other cases you're at a disadvantage as it allows you to be more easily surrounded in close combat and also allows for more of an enemy unit to be engaged. With Tau of course, this is a horribly disadvantage.

I suppose the real question here is, did Forgeworld supply the correct base? I don't know for certain, but a quick Google image search tells me they did.

Using proper 2" Unit Cohesion, larger bases also mean less models under templates/blasts

Forgeworld supplied the XV88-2 with 60mm bases for SCENIC purposes, but using 40mm base (as with the regular XV88) is also OK. Most wont ever have a problem with using a larger base than normal since its almost always a disadvantage

You'd probably want them on the 40 mm bases anyway. Makes them just big enough to hide on bastions and the like.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

I think FW providess the 60mm bases purely for aesthetic reasons. They look really cool on the big bases with a bg rocks and extra detailing etc, but they're not especially practical unfortunately - it makes them really hard to fit into the kind of terrain they're likely to want to hug.

Use either one you want- If its against the rules to model to your advantage by using things that are not supplied with the model than your fine since it did indeed come with it.
