The title says most of it. How do you guys store your models at home?

I have very little space and need ideas as to where I can put my little men.

Big boxes. Throw a 1" piece of foam or two into it, and don't worry about throwing it around.

Kidding. But I use gun cases myself, and unpainted models do find their way into boxes and slid under the bed or in the closet.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I do something similar but a cheaper case. You can get a 6' tall tempered glass case for about £30 that will hold about 2 armies each (depending on sclae and system of course). Thats where I keep my 'current' armies. Armies that I will never use again (i.e. my fantasy armies) live either in figure cases or cardboard boxes in a cupboard.

This is the one I use, it is now £40 though http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10011055/

if you are severely restricted space wise then I have seen people use a large metal tool box with multiple shelves. They have magentised all their bases so that they could use both sides of the shelves. You can fit a suprising number of figures in quite a small space then but obviously this won't work with heavy models.

I use a Billy Bookcase. 4 shelves are devoted to Imperial Guard, 2 shelves are devoted to Dark Eldar, and currently 1 shelf is devoted to Flames of War. There's over 2,000 points of Guard and Dark Eldar on there and the Billy accommodates them pretty comfortably. I could never just stuff everything onto window sills and any other surface I had lying around.

Good question.

Mine are stored in a KR mulitcase at the moment but I would like to have them on display but my wife will not let me have them in the house.

In stead I would like to put them on display in the cellar where i paint (out of sight out of mind for my wife).

My Marine and ork army would look good and inspire me to do more and i'm starting a space wolves army too, seems ashame to just hide them away.

I bought this last year, and love it.

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40128563/

Holds waaay more than those vertical glass display cases.
(Though I will probably get one of those too eventually, as mine is filling up at an alarming rate).

I also have a small display case that hangs on my wall and holds smaller stuff (great for skirmish forces).

My four armies presently live in various cases. (One battlefoam, one GW, and three KR) but I'd love a vertical glass display case like that Detolf from Ikea.

Palindrome, when you say it can hold two armies, how big are your armies? It looks big enough that I could get six thousand points plus titans and my infinity skirmishers in there to me... but I'm a bad judge of size.

Width: 43 cm
Depth: 37 cm
Max load/shelf: 6 kg

3 shelves and a bottom plate to store models on. really, work out that 43x37 (17"x15" ish for the metrically impaired ) with a few sheets of paper and start putting models on. it's your army, you know best how you want to display it

My 2500 points (ish) of Death Guard takes up 2 shelves (including 5 vehicles and a dread), a FoW infantry company takes up a shelf, a tank company half a shelf etc. that is leaving quite a lot of space between models though.

You could manage 6000 points in 1 case, it would be a tight fit though depending on what those 6000 points consist of.

You could fit about 100 20mm based models on one shelf if you really crammed them in.

Thats the top shelf of my DG and as you can see there is quite a lot of clear space.

2 2000 point armies on one shelf

You can get a lighting for it, it has clearly been designed for a light but I never bothered. I would imagine that Ikea would sell it.

The other big plus point for the Detolf cabinets is that the doors are quite stiff to open and the handle is at the very top of the door, they are effectively toddler proof.

I'm lucky enough to have a large walk-in closet with built in shelves that my wife let me take over. Inside the closet I have stuff sitting on shelves, in army transport foam (before battlefoam was a thing I think), tackle boxes, GW cases, and comic boxes.

Found a small band equipment carrying case at a garage sale for $5 Added some stacks of pluck foam and cut some industrial space age soft Styrofoam for the larger pieces. Works out fine. Now all I have to do is doodle something visually cool on the case. I used to just use a Shoe box and wash clothes.

I was interested in Battlefoam until I read a post here on Dakka about a horrible experience with their customer service.

Are you asking about display or storage. I don't keep any of my minis on display. Rather, they are all stored away safely in hardshell cases in foam trays that I make myself.

Check it out.

I've made about 6 so far for my various armies and games. It takes a bit of DIY, but I challenge anyone to find a system that offers as much protection at the price point.

You might not have access to the same cases, but the concepts translate outside of this particular case.
