It would be a good idea to get a terrain thread started, I think!

We already know about:

1) Gamecraft

http://store.gcmshop.com/c/127/28mm-wild-west

2) Battle Flag

http://www.wargame-buildings.com/blackwater-gulch.html

3) Sarissa Precision

http://www.sarissa-precision.co.uk/store/oldwestHR/

But here's another:

4) Renedra Limited

http://renedra.co.uk/webstore.html#Buildings

Look to be in plastic too, which is nice!

Now if someone can link me to scale and era appropriate Trains and Tracks...!

Those rendara buildings are nice, but too small :( I bought 2 of the farm houses early on, and the front door is about in line with my mini's chins I think they're made more for 25mm stuff. They look good though, I use them in photos and put em in the background

Another good wooden building company is Aetherworks from Australia. I like their under construction kit Haven't seen them in person yet but I have some on the way.

One thing I've been trying and failing to find is good looking teepees and other indian terrain.

Here's an online store that sells lots of model train stuff
http://www.modeltrainstuff.com

Make sure you go for "O" gauge stuff. Trains will probably be too expensive for gaming unless you find old used/broke stuff but scenery is usually reasonable. For tracks look for "2 rail" track, standard O gauge track has 3.

Nice to know that the Rendara stuff is a no-go!

That could have been a costly mistake that I'm glad to avoid - thanks!

yeah .. still could work in a pinch if you have one, but stick to the wooden stuff

But.. one thing I've chatted about with Game Salute is doing some Terra-Clips-Esque building sets. Either going to the company that makes it to see if they could do it for us, or just doing our own. Haven't even started any kind of dialogue yet, want to get the game released and in stores first.

Oh and even though I imagine the game world being more like the muddy forest kind of wild west than the desert kind, I gotta get me some of these

This train seems to be of good scale and reasonably priced.

Here are some pictures of Rob_Jedi's conversion work on it over at LAF.

I hope to pick one up soon and see for myself. Some other pieces on my "to buy list" are some O scale resin castings by Rusty Rail

FWIW, I cannot over-emphasize how happy I am with Battlefield Architects. I bought some of their stuff and it is fantastic.

Knuckleduster had introduced their line of buildings which are being produced by Tri-City Laser. These are made from plywood rather than MDF.

http://www.knuckleduster.com/store/cart.php?target=category&category_id=61

I have been looking around for trains as well. First "O" scale (1/48 scale) is just way to big. You can make a quick scale check by laying the miniature on the track. Place it crossways (head against one rail, feet against the other rail) between the rails. If it fits between the rails (not counting the base) then the scale you are looking at is way to big. Standard gauge rails are only 4' 8" apart, narrow gauge rails are 3' apart. The closest train scale to miniatures is "S" scale (1/64). This is a minor scale amongst the model railroad community but you can get flex track and turnouts in this scale without to much effort. Everything else is going to be pretty expensive. The Fast Lane Train mentioned above is also to big, it looks like its about "O" Scale. The more or less standard 4-4-0 is actually a pretty small engine.

Dixon has a resin train, but it looks to be more expensive than the S scale stuff! http://www.dixon-minis.com/details.php?code=LTV.1
http://www.dixon-minis.com/dixoncatalogue.php?maintype=12

Ultimately if you are happy with the train you are using then go with that.

I can heartily recommend the BattleFlag buildings - bought a whole set of them the other day - they are very easy to fit together and look absolutely fantastic, even in an unpainted state.

Also, can someone suggest where to get some authentic looking crates, barrels, coffins etc - the sort that would be piled up by a general store/undertakers and so forth? I have plenty of buildings now, just need the ancillaries.

I remember seeing some different barrels & crates before, but now that you mention it I can't remember where :(

Been thinking bout doing a set of resin obstacles for the game. It would basically be things like fences, barrels, crates, sacks of grain and other bits, formed together in about a 4" long piece, and maybe 3 different pieces for the set. Would anyone be interested in something like that?

Sounds like a good idea. I ordered some fences from Perry Miniatures this afternoon and they do a set of barrels too so I ordered them as well - will see if they fit the Wild West aesthetic.

Now that I'm officially 'in' with 3 starters (with more to come!) and a load if extra free figs, yes, I'm very interested in any and all terrain suitable for the setting!

I just received my order from Burn In Designs, and I recommend them. Puts together very easily, nice pieces with just enough details. Their rock ridge intro set is a bargain, especially if you throw in the extra floors, as you get some walkways too.

It's a one-off piece at the moment but I thought this was a nice saloon: http://drwillettsworkshop.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/gold-rush-saloon.html

Personally I think it's going to be Battle Flag for me especially since I'm in the UK, on a related note apparently TriCity Laser's stuff is also available from Caliver in the UK (Knuckleduster in the US) but I can't find it on their rather horrendous website. If anyone has more success please point it out. :-)

Another one: http://www.wildwestmodels.com/Products-O-scale.html

I *think* O is the right scale, they do a few others though. Pricier than most in this thread but nice detail by the looks of the pictures. A bit more variation in buildings too, might be good for people looking for inspiration in building their own.

Those are great looking buildings. I found them a while ago, I emailed the company and they said the balconies and stairs were about an inch wide, so they would be too small for our 30mm bases and a really tight squeeze for 25mm bases. I asked if they would want to do custom buildings with bigger balconies and they never replied. But still I think their buildings look great. There's lots of O scale train scenery out there that works well with the game, I have a few plastic kits I found at my local train shop.

I contacted Caliver to ask if they sell the Tri-City Laser stuff and they said that they do not stock it, but they can get it. If you want to order from them you have to email with what you want (it's not listed on the website). They said that with VAT, customs, etc. the price is approximately $1 = £1. That's still cheaper than ordering from Tri-City directly (especially as you risk customs charging you more).

You can see the full Tri-City Laser range at http://www.etsy.com/shop/TriCityLaser

They're also doing some coffins and gravestones. I've emailed them to ask about stair and board walk widths on their buildings so will let you know when I hear back.

Yes, I confirmed with TriCity Laser about sizes, they said:

All my designs are for 28mm but 30mm work also. I made sure 30mm bases would work with all my designs. Like the balcony on the hotel will fit a 30mm base. The board walk comes out about 1.5" and the stairs are about 1.2" wide, just big enough to fit a 30mm base. If you need something custom let me know and I can do that to. Also check out Knuckleduster.com, they are distributors for my buildings and have a lot of good painted pics of my buildings to look at as well as miniatures.

Are the Renedra fences sized well for the Burn In Designs and other "heroic" buildings?

What about Pegasus Cactus?

I have the Pegasus cacti and the Renedra fences and the seem to sit nicely with the Battleflag buildings I have - I think they are 28mm 'heroic'?

That fits with what I know.. I have a Burn In Designs town incoming and wanted to make sure that the fences I have access to locally would fit..

My understanding is that the Burn In Designs buildings are pretty much spot on to BattleFlag..

Took me a while to find the camera, which, rather bizarrely, was in the car. Anyway, the usual apologies for poor photo quality, unpainted miniatures and poor lighting etc etc. The pics were hastily snapped in my games room today on a very dark and dank day. And yes, I need to finish and paint the buildings, I know!

Mat is a Hotz Mat - Western Town mat, cacti are from Pegasus, fences are Renedra/Perry as are the barrels (if you can spot them). Minis are from the Black Scorpion range and buildings are from Battle Flag.
