So one of my interests for a while has been what civilian vehicles look like in 40k

You can see my exhaustive treatment of the subject here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Civilian_vehicles_in_40k

I just found 2 nearly perfect die cast vehicles and am turning them into Imperial delivery vans.

1/35 scale die cast versions of the 1950 Chevy Suburban to be exact.

They're a bit big but I think they'll look OK on the field. Imperial vehicles then to be on the large side anyway.

Next to a Chimera they're still on the small side.

Usually I use vehicles as terrain and cover, I've never liked how 40k cities are so bare of cars and trucks, no matter what the economy or society people still need food, raw materials and everything else that gets hauled around.

Still looking for good company names to put on the side.

Moore, Ok.

Sorry, but I don't see delivery van?

I see Ambulance and Ice Cream truck!
Seriously.

And I think they scale well against the Chimera. It's got to hold a squad of troops,
have heavier armor, bigger engine and is amphibious to boot!

I think the scale is pretty close, they should be smaller then an apc.

Are you going to make them destroyed? Or have them more in fine condition just abandoned?

Those figures look like kids swarming the ice cream truck that alarmingrick mentions.

I'm going for battered but functional.

I have some other die cast cars, one of these days i want to douse them in lighter fluid and burn them to get the proper ruined city look.

They also need names, I was thinking of the Fjord Motors Burro. Other ideas?

Y'know... that's just crazy enough to work...

Soylent Sherbert, filled with everything people need.

Made from everything people need!

Anyway added the obligatory bitz. In the grim future darkness even delivery vans need to be ready for trouble.

Kids do love that Soylent Sherbert.

Wonder if I can make a green stuff cone for the roof...

Pretty cool. They need to transport IG with tommy guns and pin stripe suits.

Very nice find, and they look like they are shaping up nicely. I think that making an ice cream cone is certainly within your skill set, possibly using card stock for the cone, and then a foil ball covered with green stuff for the ice cream

In the end I decided against the Soylent Sherbert cones and just kept things straightforward.

If you can't read the signs, one has the Soylent Green logo and the slogan "Made for, by and from the people".

The other is Imperial Mail - "Nor rain, nor sleet, nor the daemons of the warp..."

Pretty simple project but I think cars and trucks add a lot to urban terrain.

The Imperial Mail is supposed to look like the Royal Mail logo

But didn't save right. I may have to revisit it.
