What? These are meant to be professional legislators. They propose concepts, get industry feedback, win over elements of their own party, then formalise the concept with substantive detail and expert modelling. This is the process by which you first and foremost establish within your own party what it wants to do, and it is also the process that means the party has mature, practical legislation ready to when they do return to power.

I mean, you are right that the Republicans failed to have legislation close to ready, in fact they even failed to have any coherent policy positions. But the reason you give is comical, that they didn't bother because they didn't think they'd need.

This isn't a bunch of c students at a party college, blowing off writing their talk because hopefully the tutor won't call on them to present in the next tutorial.

A) all they do is defend it.

Your nonsense is made clear by your own post. You said 'defend it for being the best thing ever'... and then you point out Democrats defend ACA. Notice what's fething missing from the second bit? The 'as the best thing ever' bit. What does that tell you?

B) there are issues with the PPACA... so, where's their plans? Do they really acknowledge that there are real problems?

There is plenty of talk among the pundit class that ACA could be strengthened with increased subsidies in some areas, and a higher individual mandate. There's also talk of strengthening s1333, to better encourage cross state plans, so that maybe it might actually happen.

I can't see any of that happening, to be honest.

You simply can't ignore that Democrats objected to any means to change/repeal/tweak the ACA if it comes from Republicans. They may acquiesce in the future since Obama isn't in office any more... *Shrug*

What Democrats want is a strengthening of the core elements of ACA. Greater subsidies, a larger mandate. What Republicans want is to remove those things, or strip them down to an absolute minimum. The idea of that the two parties should be expected to find a common ground there is silly. That you would take it one step further and somehow blame Democrats for that absence of common ground isn't just silly, its downright absurd.

So what tweaks did they offer up to improve the bill in the six years Obama was in office after it passed? All I saw were the 27? Bills put forward to repeal, knowing full well they would have gotten vetoed. They now have the floor. How many repeal bills have been put forward? Zero. They put a lame Frankenstein amendment monster up. And they themselves killed it. They have no interest whatsoever in trying to craft any sort of healthcare law. They don't care about it at all. They care that they could use it as a boogieman to really really gullible people to try to get votes.

Oh, Republicans did care. They cared that the subsidies that expanded medicaid and allowed millions to afford insurance came from raising taxes on rich people. That's why Ryan's bill was all about reversing every single one of those taxes and then some, offset by a gutting of medicaid funding and the insurance subsidy scheme. That 24 million would have lost coverage is besides the point. The tax increases must be reversed.

Remember when Republicans got so fething angry about ACA passing. They were angry that it was 'rushed' through in 13 months. Well they tried to get their own bill through the house in 21 days. They were angry about ACA creating this imminent death spiral because sick people could get insurance after they found out they were sick. This bill kept that, and actually weakened the protections against the death spiral, by removing the individual mandate. They were angry about government setting minimum insurance conditions. This bill didn't even address those. They were angry about death panels. That was a stupid lie that no-one ever actually believed.

It turns out all those things Republicans claimed they were angry about with ACA were all lies. What Republicans were really angry about was that the increase in insurance coverage was going to be paid for by taxes on rich people.

One problem is that the ACA only mandates private insurance, and doesn't actually guarantee healthcare. Without strong price controls and demands on coverage you can end up with huge deductibles and little to show for it.

Actually, ACA places strict controls on what must be covered in plans at a bare minimum. And the subsidy scheme is set so that the out of pocket for the consumer has a hard ceiling as a % of their income, so no matter what the private insurer is charging, the individual cannot be priced out of the market.

The private insurer is also unable to price gouge within a single market, because they are required to spend 85% of the revenue taken on medical costs.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Curb stomping in the Eye of Terror!

The idea that Republicans and Democrats can't work together on this is an example that gak never gets done.

Ideas like these can and should be debated:

What can be done to help patients and doctors and to drive down costs?

1. Uncouple HSAs from insurance so patients can use it for Direct Primary Care. Clarify DPC as a delivery model and not a risk bearing entity.

2. Fix the Medicare/Medicaid payment system which reimburses hospitals more for services than those delivered outside of the hospital

3. Repeal MACRA.

4. Update HITECH so that it doesn't create a mandate – these laws have created unnecessary and burdensome regulation and red tape that have been putting doctors out of business.

5. Promote charity care with enticing tax incentives to providers.

6. Protect doctors and patients from having to participate in treatments that violates their conscience.

7. Protect doctors from predatory specialty societies who have colluded with hospitals and insurance companies and force them to pay money to “maintain their certification” (MOC) as conditions to work treating patients. It's absolutely getting bonkers...

8. Repeal Certificate of Need (Thanks Tricky Dicky!) laws to foster competition/innovation.

9. Meaningful Tort Reform which would put an end to “defensive medicine”.

10. Encourage more co-opt by like services/industry. Can you imagine what kind of insurance the AARP (30million folks) could be tailored?

11. Allow / Encourage hospitals across the region to "band together" with other independent health services (lab / mri / supplies / etc...) to form an ACO, which allows people to pay w/o traditional insurance company in the middle.

There are plenty of other ideas that's the floating around for years.

Had a turnout of around 110 when we roll called, we picked up most of the supporters around 1pm. No one showed on the left except Antifa and a few people passing. No conflict for us - police apparently had issues with Antifa using smokes, burned a flag, and police pushed a few with bikes. Police were in a great mood, we spoke to the chief inspector a few times - I'm just happy they let us march. We passed out radios and made it as organized as possible. We also had an Imperium of Man Flag and we saw a Black Legion / Chaos flag over in Antifa.

Jon Snow was great! The left's chants were mostly "SHAME SHAME" or the "'No Trump! No KKK! No fascist USA" over and over.

We had a lovely dog named Sasha that rolled with us

Why does it seem like the kind of post you'd see on 4chan by someone who frequents Stormfront? Whole thing is very bizarre. I suppose it could be satire but it doesn't seem to work as satire or as a serious post.

I wonder if it's just an adopted affectation for radio shows - I don't listen to Alex Jones normally but that sounds sort of like the snippets of what I've heard.

She is local to where I grew up, and back when she was just running for District Attorney, she definitely didn't speak like this.

If we are still on the Ryan Care I have a good anecdote..
I recently got hired, went through a rigorous background check, an expensive fingerprint service and health check.
Then im waiting for my starting kit. waiting nearly a week. Then I find out.......if Ryan Care passed, I would have not been hired(Including not reimbursed for the 100$+ i spent on the above) Because it would have completely underfunded the place I wanted to work. I would be working with kids with Autism teaching them basic life skills using ABa therapy.
Just thought its funny that, the party that wants people to go get a job and work, almost cost me one.

They really aren't the party that wants people to get jobs and go to work, they're the party that thinks none of that is they're business to do anything about, that anything they have to contribute to helping is theft from them, and it's your fault if it's not working out for you.

What the Democrats really wanted was so far away from the ACA that the ACA is already the grumblingly acceptable common ground for them. Similar ideas were once called Romneycare and the Republicans were okay-ish with that and the Democrats accepted that and pushed it through because it was better than what existed before. (the ACA saves over 30.000 lives more per year than the old system). They shouldn't even consider finding "new" common ground that the Republicans like more than the status quo right now, that would be ridiculous. You don't negotiate (successfully) by giving in to all demands over time. If the Republicans want to burn it all down the Democrats should oppose them instead of weakly protesting before caving in to their demands.

Yeah that was setting up. We roll called a few times and marched around 2:30 (our permit was 11:30-1:30 and then we would march to the Art Museum). That was early morning, we had maybe 50~ there before 1:30.

We looped around city hall, antifa engaged with the police and we couldn't advance. We left and hit the bars

Shoutout to Irish Times - great bar in Philadelphia. We went there after wards. We also went over to Aston Cigar Bar with a few guys - super pro trump place. Actually had more fun here than the inauguration
