Are those Movie Marines? Because that's the only way I see you pulling victories with that list.

Looks like you and CaptKaruthers will both be guaranteed a full night's sleep on Friday night.

How'd you guess? I did ask Fred if I could bring movie marines and play 250 points down, but what he said is not repeatable on a family board.

thank you for the kind and constructive criticism. I know my place. In college I was in the top 1% of the bottom tenth... I'm no better in 40k sadly enough.

Yup.
Bio Titan was a little rough, but I played Brave Sir Robin (RUN AWAY) and scraped by with a win.

So, who won the Gladiator tournament? Was it a Dakka member? What army did he play? Inquiring minds want to know.

Mick won the gladiator (Papa Nurgle) and this is his list. He was the only player to receive all battle points over the 4 games. He played against a Hiorophant list in round 3 and got all 32 battle points against it. At the end the biotitan had 1 mass point removed and Mick's marines were running in every direction from it.

Congrats Mick.

Any chance you'll write a battle report?

I'll be glad to give a summary, and apologies to my opponents if my memory is clouded by time or alcohol.

Game 1.
39 member seer council, 2 5 man black guardian defender squads in wave serpents, 1 fire dragon squad in wave serpent, 2 falcons, 2 vypers... approximately.

I go first.

Turn 1, he moves forward and doesn't use fortune on his seer council.

Turn 2: I drop at the top of the turn and put three squads around his council. He says, "I forgot to use Fortune last turn, do you mind if I roll for it now?" "Yes." "Really?" "Yes I mind, now shut up and take your saves. This a is a gladiator, not a knitting contest." (Please realize that I did know this fine gentleman and it was said in fun.)

SO, he loses 19 models out of his council. (OUCH)

Drop pods stun 2 Vypers.

Turn 3: He mind wars a meltagun and fails to beat my roll. He parks his wave serpents back to back to protect them from being shot in the rear.

I drop to the front and back of the aforementioned wave serpents and shoot each one in the back with melta guns. (life is now good). Each goes down. (Destroyed the one with aspect warriors first, no place to go. Destroyed the second one next and guardians failed their save coming out into the ruins of the first one... )

I assault his seer council with three squads.

Librarian cancels fortune. (his farseers are not having agood day.)

Turns 4,5,6: 1 last squad drops and destroys stuff, claims a table quarter. He ends up with no models remaining.

Game 2: Chaos army, 3 defilers (Dreadnoughts with a battle cannon coming out he center of their chest), 2 close combat squads in rhinos, 2 shooty squads. 3 obliterators.

It was night fight and an objective mission. 4 objectives, control the most. Escalation as well. diagonal deployment.

He moved 2 foot squads to the far right objective and then got all of his reserves. Defilers came on to his right one rhino centered up (with a Lietenant) and one rhino to the far right.

I dropped 2 squads right (termies and bolter squad) and destroyed most of one foot slogging unit. One unit (meltagun) dropped left, shielded from Defilers and shot the oblits in woods.

Defilers lacked LOS and moved forward an average of 1" through difficult terrain. (yup, three snake eyes in a row for difficult terrain.)

Turn 3: I wipe out his remaining foot slogging squad with the bolter squad, and they remain there the rest of the game.
Scouts drop onto objective 2, his defiler moves onto objective 3, and no one in near 4. I assault his rhino squad and wipe them out but take 50% casualites from one melta squad.

Turn 4: Librarian comes in, and drops in front of the Obliterators (one of the mission objectives) and shoots the holy snot out of them. They lose one. *sigh* Scouts get massacred by a squad coming around all the drop pods that I had thought was out of range. One squad drops in and kills a defiler. Terminators charge a squad that has a tooled up lietenant in it.. and lose all five to the lieutenant. *sigh*

So at this point I have the bolter squad on objective 1, scouts in combat on objective 2, defiler on objective 3, and no one near objective 4, but a defiler heading that way.

Turn 5: I put a melta squad on the objective 4, and spread out to cover the objective. and avoid the pie plate. His defiler charges and I whack it with a power fist. However, he drops the 6 men remaining back to 4.. not scoring.

Turn 6: Bolter squad on obj 1, scouts below 50% have dropped their opponents below 50% and kill them off in close combat, get a good massacre move. Defiler on Objective 3. Tie at the start of the turn. Librarian, command squad, and power fist along with the scout vet sgt (all that remains), and another vet sgt trek over, charge the defiler and do 10 hits with 12 attacks to destroy it. Ensuing blast kills the scout sgt and 2 other marines, but leaves command squad untouched to preserve a win, 2 objectives to 0. I also killed his highest point cost unit and fulfilled all the other objectives, which I don't remember right now.

Game three: Bio Titan Dude. Actually a fairly nice fella from Colorado. Mission was assassinate. Pick a squad from your opponent's army and kill it. He picks the bolter squad. I pick a squad of genestealers. He's got the obligatory winged tyrant, another walking, 3 fexes (2 elite of course), 2 Raveners, and two units of genestealers.

He depoyes biotitan in the center with 1 HT, 1 carnifex, 1 Ravener, and my assassination target to the right. THe other 2 'fexes, HT, genestealers, and a ravener were to the left. He ambled forward and created more dispersion.

1 plasma squad, librarian, and bolter squad came in (darn the bad luck). Bolter squad goes in the far back corner to avoid the 24" charge range of this freakin' monstrosity. Librarian went around on the other side of the building from it, and plasma squad dropped on his extreme right flank to shoot up the genestealers which were my assassination target. I kill all 6 'stealers, and the librarian's Fury of the ancients hits 2 carnifexes, the biotitan, 2 hive tyrants, a raventer, 1 unit of stealers, and a partridge in a pear tree. The partridge was the only casualty.

Turn 3: His Biotitan ambles towards my dropped squad and fleets. He charges the librarian squad with the biotitan along with the hive tyrant but can't fit the biotitan between the drop pods. I allow him to retarget his assault. The biotitan is now about 12" from the squad it needs to assassinate. Not a good thing. Hive tyrant kills some, marines don't break.

I move the bolter squad into the extreme corner, 2" apart to avoid the str 10 Ap3 pieplates the biotitan is packing. Terminators come in and drop into table quarter adjascent to the biotitan on the other side of the combat. Scout drop in to shoot 'stealers, more stuff comes in.

Turn 4: Biotitan decides to save the 'tyrant and moves in and assaults the command squad. More stuff engages in combat. I kill off the rest of his 'fexes and stuff, move a unit into his deployment zone.

End of 4 he has nothing left but the titan. I have the bolter squad in the corner (whole point of the mission), terminators in another corner, and 1 squad in his deployment zone. His biotitan is in charge range of any of the three.

Turn 5: He decides to charge the terminators. He does 3 wounds, I make 3 invulnerable saves and do 1 wound in return which removes a mass point.

I move around a little.

Random game length. I pick up a die and say, "The game ends on a 4+, okay?" He says, "Sure." I roll a 4. Game ends. He then says, "Wait, doesn't the book say the game continues on a 4?" Boy did I feel like crap then. Luckily, a judge was standing there at the time and pointed out that it was a 50/50 shot and we had both agreed. (I thought it was fair, I just didn't like making the silly mistake).

Game 4.
Word Bearers.

Let me sum up the game with one sentence.

At the bottom of turn two, I got all eight of my units coming in from reserve.

Do you really need a battle report at that point?

74 marines starting within 12" of your army and get to shoot first.

Fear of darkness broke a raptor unit which was escorted off the board. A unit of 10 furies and 12 demonettes was also killed along with another squad being essentially dropped to combat ineffectively. 500 VPs worth of damage in one round of shooting. (ouch)

He came back strong though and did a great job of trying to claw his way back up and out of the depths of despair. It took me a long time to kill off his flamers and plaguebearers.

I mean, what are you going to do when something like that happens? He took it well and was my favorite opponent of the entire day and one I most wanted a rematch against. Unfortunately, when our teams played each other the next day (karma or what?), he was in the other split.

Very interesting time. I've found that the gladiator is all about matchups and scenarios. If I had gotten the Biotitan in the "Destroy the opponent's highest cost unit" game, I would have been hosed. All in all, interesting and a lot of fun.

Thanks for reporting and congratulation to your victory.

It seems like you got a bit lucky with that big Seer Council. Would you still have won if your opponent had used Fortune initially and hadnt messed up two Fortunes in a row later on? (The chance is pretty low even with hood )

What would you have changed to your list?

Change anything? I scored perfect.. I don't think anything needed to be changed.

As far as the seer council, I probably would have gone about things differently and concentrated on eliminating everything else first, and THEN going after the seer council. One unit to tie them up and prevent mind war, and the rest concentrating on eliminating the rest of his army.

If I were to change anything, it would be to drop the admantium mantle (which I forgot) and add master crafted weapons to two guys instead, but that's pretty minor in reality.
