So me and my friends usually play on an empty table with no cover or anything of the sort. So I looked all over for how the instinctual behavior-lurk works in this situation since there is no area terrain for them to attempt to move closer to, so what happens when they fail there I.B. test?

Do they just not move that round, or can I move them where I want?

Well your meant to be playing with terrain, so that would be the correct answer.

If you are playing Nids without terrain, you're gonna have a bad time. Nids (especially gaunts) rely on cover the same way that SM rely on power armour.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Use boxes, pots, vases, etc.. as terrain. Books stacked to make hills, etc..

Use paper cutouts to define 'area' terrain forests, etc..

Well since they have no area terrain to move to, they would already be in the {edit:} only "terrain" possible, so they would just sit there and shot at any opponent in range.

Considering the board is supposed to be 25% terrain IIRC and you're playing with none that's why you didn't find anything.

However if you all insist to play without any, than in your case the model wouldn't move.

for the record you dont have to have GW terrain. Personally i dislike their terrain, its all too urban-based. I like more natural-like terrain such as ravines, forests, rockways, etc. Right now im still building my army (it is NOT built till it is painted, dang it) but i intend to use typical craft foam from a hobbylobby type place to make my terrain. Making rocks is easy, trees and grass tend to be harder (using a "sheet" of grass looks lame).

Also, as stated before, you can use random stuff. Hell my first game we used our shoes as walls lol

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
