...are those Orks wearing life vests? HAHAHAHAHAhAHAHAHAHAHAHA this is hilarious. Kinda funny, because the orks are one of the only races in 40k to actually have a submarine unit (it's Apoc only, and hardly anyone I have seen uses water terrain big enough to use it, but still).
The water looks amazing! I have to ask, how was it made?

The problem with creating the ruleset/gaming table is that sea battles don't just get fought on a single plane, you are gonna have to allow for under water fighting. Otherwise the game would just be standard 40k without troops.

Well actually... it could be done with scenario where the ships would be pretty much moving fortifications and there would be boarding actions and such. The troops could only move on the ships unless they can fly or something.

Water-based 40k would be a good idea indeed. We already have underwater Tau battlesuits in official fluff, just add some IG gunboats and Hovercraft, aquatic Tyranids, Ork subs, and we're set.

Actually, Nids would do quite well in aquatic battles. The Oceans are often the Nids first targets in an invasion so they can absorb all the easy bio matter in the ocean to prepare for the land war.

IG can also use chimeras as landing boats, since they're amphibious.
It would make heavy use of fliers, skimmers, and perhaps amphibious transports (for example, you could make an ork "dingy" and give it roughly the same stats as a trukk)
Could be really fun if you did it right.

If I was better at making rules I'd try to create somekind of a ruleset for sea battle scenarios even though I would propably never end up using them myself

My friend and I were just discussing this the other day, before I noticed this thread. Imagine the size of the carrier you'd need to hold even a handful of Valkyries.
That said, the fluff says that IG's fliers are all part of the Imperial Navy, so it would stand to reason that they'd have boats as well.

But then it would just a surface sea game with no super cool underwater tyranid models attacking submarines or ripping into boat hulls.
