I'm new to posting from an apple device, so I don't really know the first thing about what might be causing this. Every once in a while when I move between pages, whether it is clicking a link or pressing Submit for a post, I am whisked away to a blank white page containing a google banner ad such as might be shown in the upper right. I'm using OSX 10.8.2 on the latest Safari.

Yeah it is an apple bug. If you view a page with a # in the URL (mainly skipping to a post), and a javascript built iframe is on the page (google ads, facebook ads, etc), then safari screws up and loads the ad in the main page. Quite annoying but besides crafting a thing to block google ads on all apple devices, there is no real way around it that I am aware of. If anyone else knows of a workaround then I'm all ears, but dont own any apple devices that I can replicate it on. I have an ipad but have not had it happen on there.
