So like the title states; I'm trying to fit this squad into my 1000 point list, mostly due to the desire to bring a Standard Bearer.

What's a good use of the squad at 5 men strong? Power Swords and use them as a backfield counter-charge unit? Other stuff? I'm pretty clueless, and it seems like their only use is giving a backfield unit fearless.

IMO don't bother. You can't give them 4x special weapons like a CSM command squad, and you're never going to make a point-efficient assault unit out of them. And since they're so small and weak you're going to be reluctant to put them up front where the banner can be useful, but hiding in the back making a unit fearless is a waste of points compared to just buying a second copy of the backfield unit. The final, fatal flaw is that you're playing a 1000 point game where you don't have room to spend 100-150 points (or more!) on a mediocre unit.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
