So I have been wondering, what makes up competitive armies? Or rather, what everyone here thinks makes up competitive armies. I play Orks and… Well, I never take my games too seriously, because I really just enjoy playing, but my LGS is holding a tournament, and I want to take part in it… But I don’t know where to begin.

Well, that’s not true, but I would like some advice from those who have gone before me. What works? What doesn’t? And even if you don’t play Orks, I’d like to see what your list is, just so that I can have an idea of what I might be up against.

On most basic level, Competitiveness= Asskicking.
Ability to smash enemy to the ground, stomp him flat and eat his hat.
Speaking boringly, your army must be able to kill (or contain): land raiders, SS/TH termies, flyers, lots of rhinos, horde infanty, etc
Then, your army must have objective holders _who will live to the end of asskicking_
I would start with 2 mobs of 10+ lootas behind Aegis defence line (killing rhino, flyers).
then 2 mobs of 10 shoota boyz for home objectives and 2 of 30 shootaboyz (kill infantry, including termies) and a warboss with klaw.

That sounds about right toss a few claws in there and its a party.

Ok, well, that's dandy. BUt, I still would like to see what else, everyone else would be playing. What are your lists, I'm not so concerned on what mine should look like, as I am on what others might look like.

Well, honestly there are so many Ork lists you can do at 1K its not even funny, but the most common are probably dakka lists. At 1K points I would bring one fo two lists, DE or Tyrants Legion, both would have 6 somewhat durable vehicles, something lootas could tear apart. My DE wouldbe able to put out about 12 wounds from the venoms and destroy any poorly positioned vehicle, I will be faster than you, lootas make me sad.

My TL will have a mix of vehicles, most often 2 Rhinos, 2 Chimerae, and 2 Predators, alongwith a mini blob of auxiliaries, to provide cover. I have 4 scoring units, two of which are fairly durable, and the ability to play the objective game very well.

Here is a rough draft of each list.

DE
HQ Haemonculi or Archon
Troops 5 Man squads of warriors in Venoms
Elites Trueborn with Blasters in Venoms
HS 3 Ravagers

My TL would bring
HQ Auxilia Command Squad in AC Chimera with 2x Melta
20 man mini auxilia blob
Armsmen in an AC Chimera
2x Tactical Marine Cohorts in Rhinos
and 2x Autolas Preds
