Expansions on Sale & The Future of Kingdom Death:

We are at a very interesting time and place with Kingdom Death. The kickstarter is nearly behind us, the game is sold out, and all that is ahead of us is the horizon. stretching out like a big empty canvas. I admit, this is sort of a new and difficult place. I've never worked like I did these past 4 years.

We (myself and the team) took every challenge head on, locked horns with any issue, and generally learned not to compromise! All that effort and all those crazy decisions we made... have now been validated. The ambition, as ludicrous as it felt, has been reached.

Putting aside my concerns and embracing a very pure desire to create is what lead to Kingdom Death and our eventual kickstarter in the first place. Our very first release, the White Speaker, was priced so that the investment would break even.

So! In the vein of embracing the insanity, Here are some things I am excited to see on the horizon of Kingdom Death. Consider it a soft-announcement of the things that inspire me to work every morning.

KDM - Nightmare Ram Expansion
KDM - Ringtail Fox Expansion
KDM - Black Knight Expansion
KDM - Gryphon Expansion
KDM - Frogdog Expansion
KDM - Lantern Festival (being reworked from the ground up, might focus on towns instead of settlements)
KDM - Storm Knight Expansion (how a survivor can become a hero)
KDM - Custom Campaign Book (for mixing our current expansions, supported with new story events)
KDM - Rust Ocean (area where Architects are from)
KD:Q - Kingdom Death Quest, a PVC game for mass market (gonna try distro with this!)
KD:T - Titan, a deck building game, its perspective far pulled far back to the greater entity level.
KD:L - Labyrinth, the game that highlights Twilight Knights, White Speakers and other hero level classes.
KD:2D - A retro cinematic platformer, with GORGEOUS hand made sprite animation.
MALE PINUPS

Of course these are the far off projects that loom large and don't include the resin releases that I have the pleasure of working on everyday!

Will all of this see the light of day? Will the team rebel and overthrow me first? I certainly can't say for now, but it should be a lot of fun either way!

Impressed with the pledge manager undertaking. Well done, Mr. Poots.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

I guess I'm a little jaded but it's very financially convenient for him to have figured this out now, After telling folks to pledge as high as possible because he wouldn't have one. Shrug...

LOL, shame on you!!

Financially smart is more like it. Want to make money? Sell stuff!

I know for a fact, I'm worried about the base set with the basic guys. FOUR guys isn't going to do much for me if I have a gak load of heads and players.

Guess I could give each a head and spread around the body parts, and let them fight over them in the gladiator pits.

I know for a fact, that if I was to try this one, I'd at least have to have around twenty or so basic guys, and four or five of those fight areas. A game like this one, too? yeas, this one is definatly going to get some attention, especially if you pull out something like that watcher., or phenoix thing. I only saw the Lion for the base set, realyl kinda interested in how that is going to do if we get more people interested. I honestly see some minis having to "Walk off, for a small fee..."

hmmm.... wonder if their going to have some sort of "Freebooter/ demo rep" thing for the game...

Hah, because there was not supposed to be a pledge manager is why I pulled out.

Well, and at the time he was saying "No post-KS tweaking" he was still thinking of it as a one-man operation he'd be doing in his apartment with just friends and family helping. I imagine once the rush wore off and he realized A) he had roughly 5,000 games he had to box and ship out and B) he had $1.6M-ish (after fees and non-payment) to make that happen it seemed more feasible (and smarter, to get more money) to allow it.

I will choose to be less cynical this time since Adam hasn't shown himself to be particularly money-grubbing (in fact, he seems to avoid money at times... *grumble-about-twilight-knight-pinup-always-out-of-stock*), though the truth is probably somewhere in-between.

Nah, like three days before the end I had a monetary emergency and asked if I could lower my pledge, and then re-up for the add-ons when the pledge manager came around. I was told no. So I just had to drop my pledge, period.

I know the CMON haters will come running at this, but my sincerest hope is that he's developed some sort of production partnership with them to help manage those aspects. By all accounts, thats the type of relationship McVey had with them, and IMO it worked very well (but then again, I'm pretty much completely happy with SW).

On the other hand, it didn't benefit him that much to have people pledge higher in the Kickstarter rather than pay him afterwards. The Kickstarter + Amazon Payments takes move money than Amazon Payments or Paypal alone.

But people are more likely to over buy if they feel they can't get it later. It WAS financially convenient, as I said... only he can know his motive but he just hasn't been straightforward enough to earn my business direct. If the game's good I'll buy it later at a discount... I really doubt it'll be worth the $300-$500 many people dropped in play value, which he raised due in part to the "gotta get it now" mentality, fostered in part by his saying repeatedly there would be no pledge manager.

Again, make of it what you will... but it WAS financially convenient for him, and he did repeatedly state he would not offer a pledge manager ("So get your pledge in now!").

Up until about 2 weeks ago BackerKit did not have not a Pledge Manager, it was mostly just a better looking backend for Kickstarter. It was after Reaper quoted me a 'few thousand at least' for their pledge manager software that I started talking with BackerKit about building a generic pledge manager for Kickstarters in the same vein as CMON's and Reaper's. Near the end of the KD Kickstarter I told Poots (and a few others) to look into BackerKit, and what I was attempting to do with them. About 2 weeks ago they sent me some early WIP of the pledge manager, and this week a few of our backers will be testing it, before it goes live for Endless next week.

So I'd say its pretty damn likely he didn't expect to have a pledge manager option available, if BackerKit wasn't so good about listening to my requests we won't have a Pledge Manger either and would have to deal with a spreadsheet nightmare again.

In any case, having the ability to add more stuff through the pledge manager now benefits all parties; the ones that didn't have enough during the kickstarter to grab all they wanted; and Adam because he gets more money. Those that backed out or never pledged because they wouldn't be able to add more later, can, hopefully, find a friend or sponsor willing to help out so they can piggyback on their pledge.

It's unfortunate that we couldn't know beforehand that this would be an option and had to operate under the assumption that it wouldn't - I believe we were told it was a possibility but not to count on it (ie. "No adding funds later."). Even suspecting this outcome as inevitable, I still went mostly all-in just in case.

"I'll try but can't guarantee it" is very different from repeated "No, there will Not be a pledge manager"

You've been talking about a pledge manager for Endless for some time (although this isn't the place to discuss that). That kind of transparency is what I look for in a crowd funding campaign.

I always thought he would be forced to allow adjustments- every large campaign ends up needing to to cover all the possible screw-ups backers make. It was his insistence that he wouldn't that rings hollow for me, especially given your contacting him during the campaign, even if the product wasn't ready. You can do a lot with 1.6M and adjusting pledges is a no-brainer.

I've made the point enough and won't continue to post about it here. I'll be interested in this again come Christmas when it's supposed to be done...

One day we'll discover just what Poots did to RiTides' dog...

Poots thought he wouldn't' have a pledge manager. So he advised people not to count on having one.

People begged, pleaded and plied him with pictures of the aforementioned dog (allegedly), and a piece of software falls into his lap. So he obliges people. There was much rejoicing. What's the complaint here? That he was unduly cautious thorough the campaign? Given the set of facts as Cyp lays them out, Poots has acted as I would have acted; moreover, saying "we might have a pledge manager allowing you to increase later" is all too easily conflated in the telephone game of internet forums into "there will be a pledge manager..." His actions seem prudent, not sinister.

In any case, as someone that has spent an... well, slightly embarrassing amount of money on this campaign, the news of a pledge manager is rather welcome. To say nothing of the great WIPs.

Its wonderful he is letting people who missed out on it pledge, oh wait...no he isn't. Oh well, I probably would have spent way too much money on this that should go elsewhere. Too bad I didn't have the foresight to pledge $1 like some people did.

Another advantage of doing this is to make more money to help cover the new USPS shipping rates.

So, I'm curious if upping our pledge via this Pledge Manager post-Kickstarter will qualify us for the "Herald of Death".

Good point, I've got some more disposable income that might tempt me over the line for the ol' Herald of Death If It were at all possible (thought I'm not hugely fussed about it either - I've ordered everything I genuinely liked) so that could be interesting.

I'm more concerned about shipping rates though, it was already $45 which in itself isn't wasn't the the end of the world, It's the VAT that's going to hurt and if the delivery price goes up substantially (combined with said VAT) then it could give me a serious sense of buyer's remorse!

as far as i understand it the delivery price cant go up (meaning we would now get less figs for our current pledges or now pay more) - it was set out in the KS - im sure adam can get a good deal sorted with a smaller - more hungry firm over there in the usa to cover himself?

Shipping rates only went up for the USPS. UPS, Fed Ex, and bulk shipping companies (the guys who put stuff in containers on ships) have the same rates they've always had.

You know, because the campaign didn't last over a month or anything..... or have 90+ pages here dedicated to it....

If you missed it then find a friend that is in, and now that they've determined it viable and reasonble to have a pledge manager, hop on theirs.

If you don't, the only person you have to blame is yourself: either for not having friends, or not being able to make a pledge decision in a 45 day period.

Actually, I believe he is upset because (if I get this straight) he had pledged, but didn't have enough for all the content, and since Adam was saying so clearly that there wouldn't be a post-KS pledge manager, he dropped it because he wanted everything or nothing.

Maybe I'm a cynic, or am overly critical, but doesn't that fall on him as well? The all or nothing viewpoint is silly to me. The boxed game itself is going to have TONS of content and 50 very nice miniatures to fool around with. Isn't that enough?

Yes, but I could also see how it would be incredibly frustrating to have based your pledge on something, then be told that this thing wouldn't happen, and then it happens.

That's a tough one. Yeah, it sucks to miss out, but the fact is that by the end Adam was offering such a good deal I don't know why anyone into KD wouldn't have pledged something. Remember, as of the end, anyone that pledged for anything that included physical shipping received 2 free figures: so you could pledge $11 (options only pledge level), get any of the campaign limited materials (or discounted expansions) and make out like a bandit.

By "make out like a bandit", I mean the best deal (in terms of figures) would probably be Options only ($11) and Lion Knight Expansion ($25). 6 figures for $36 (Lion Knight, 3 ladies of his court, Twilight Knight and White Speaker). Technically the cheapest option would be Options Only ($11) and ten base inserts ($10).
