[spoiler]Hi all I'm starting a new project. I am putting together a nurgle unit based around some original death guard. I will be trying to put some old DG into them so as to show their once loyal heritage and how totally corrupted it is by Papa Nurgle.

I purchased the chaos part of Dark Vengence and will use this as a base. Later I will add zombie Imperial Guard and other rotting things.
Let me know your thoughts.

Ok so here is my converted Hellbrute Nurgleised. I changed the face, took off the horns, (to Khornry) the tongues ( to Slaaneshy) and rotted him up a bit.
Then i gave him a proper weapon and a decent power claw and did some minor reposing mainly to the arm.

Very nice sculpting, and I like the head swap. Are you going to paint them in the original DG scheme? Rotted, worn and weathered of course

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Thx and yes I am going to paint them as close to the original as possible. I want them to look like the lost followers of the emperor so I may include some warped unit markings etc.

OK so I put the 'Chosen ' together from the dark vengeanve set and then ripped them apart again. I see the Death Guard as a semi tragic traitor legion. Heres why.

Mortarion had a grudge with the emperor and decided to follow Horus who he had a lot of time for. The whole legion was caught in the warp on the way to Terra and infected with nurgle rot. In unending agony the Legion asked the Gods of Chaos for rescue from the warp and Nurgle answered. He gifted them immortality and immunity from pain for there allegiance or unending agony and pain trapped in the warp forever. They obviously accepted.

When they emerged from the warp at Terra they were different.
They are now Nurgles elite and so have no affiliation with any chaos god who ignored their calls for help.
In my vision of the Death Guard they are loyal follows of nurgle above all else. They have no iconography of ' general' chaos and still wear their original bone grey and green trimmed armour of the Death Guard, warped and stained but I don't think they would go all Chaosey. They were a dour legion in the emperor service and would be so again in the service of Papa Nurgle.

So with this fluff in mind a major conversion of the chosen was called for. Off came all ' general' chaos iconography and I shaped their armour back to marine style and replaced backpacks etc. I then nurglised them but not to over the top. I replaced most of the heads and added a mk 3 iron helmet to one figure. I want these guys to look like they were noble marines who found nurgle though necessity not chaos marines out for a jolly.

I see them as sad, tragic, fallen marines not flamboyant out for a party bad boys. Hey its my fluff.....

Nice conversion work, particularly on the hellbrute. I'm looking forward to seeing these guys painted up. I really enjoyed reading your fluff, too. It's always enjoyable when people give their armies a back story.

OK so here is my test figure. I have kept the bone-- cream - grey and green trim of the Death guard and burned Nurgles sign over the death guard badge and kept remnants of the tactical markings in the right shoulder. Got some minor work to do on the bolter and axe etc. But Im really happy with the 'Fallen' look.
Diseased, decaying and infested with nurgles gifts this is my vision of the death guard emerging from the warp to attack Terra.

Thanks Moltar its the first chaos unit I've done. Im trying to balance the old legion with the new. Trying to show some of the former DG with their new chaos gifts.

OK my chosen converted into death guard are now finished. I'm really happy with the fallen look they have. This is how is see them on the attack on Terra. Unit insignia eaten away by nurgle, plague, rot and certain look of fallen nobility.
I went for a non discript egg shell colour from research is as close to untreaeted armour as I think you can ge

Really loving the conversion work. Cant wait to see where this takes you. I have a growing nurgle army (just not enough time to work on it) and my hellbrute is going to have the same head swap. Nice work there. I like to see DG that are not just painted green with some swampy highlights as well. Mine are painted close to the original paint scheme and everyone trips when they see them. Nice work man.

Thx. I appreciate your comments. I'm working on this nurgle force but time is premium to. I have never liked the green DG. Its got no history feel to it.

Those plague marines are looking cool, I love the colours you've used on the armour and the gribbly bits are looking suitably disgusting. I really like what you're doing with the eyes, too, they look interesting.

Thanks. Its a personal thing but I want my DG to still have pretty heresy links. The eyes I wanted yellowed out, faded, like their lost heart.

I agree with you on the colors, never figured out why they switched to such a dark green color, did they just let the fungus grow ? I think your selection allows for uniqueness for your army, and a nice tie to the old cannon.
