in my local GW, if you ask if they have any imperial armour books instock (which they sometimes do) they reply quite natily and maciously. when i asked if they stock horus heresy they say "we will NEVER stock forgeworld products" (quoted from facebook)

is there FW hate in your local Gw, and why? i dont see a reason for them to hate FW.

The only GW near me A. Stocks FW books B. Was sad, but not upset when telling people they don't get the Horus Heresy stuff.

But that GW is laid back, pretty friendly, and has a hang-out crowd present rather than the "buy stuff now!" that I hear about from other GWs

From my understanding GW employees got discounts on the Forge World books that were stocked in the store, and they didnt want their employees to get discounds on the HH books... Thats what a red shirt told me, it could be wrong... im not a doctor..

And lucas replied that his GW don't seem to hate FW, and are even able to show that they're sorry they don't stock certain FW things when asked.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

interesting... they seem to get angry when asked about HH and only slightly agitated when asked about IA

Ive heard rumblings that GW stores will be phasing out FW books, they will get new ones but they wont keep any back stock.

What happened to the OP I can only guess its sell bot training to disuade people from forgeworld products, I dont know why a GW employee would be so pissy about FW unless they were told to. Its like when you talk about specialist games in store, they try and make you change the subject.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

On moon miranda.

FW in general doesn't make the stores much money and probably doesn't factor into sales goals/commissions they want to meet because of the way FW operates as a separate sales channel. Some GW salespeople are donkey-caves and don't get that acting like a jerk doesn't help sales and that FW can help sales in indirect ways, when that arises, don't frequent their shops or write a letter to *their* manager.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I heard that they use an Eldar-like method of divination and the runes read that if they NEVER stocked those items then, in the year 2439, they would save $4053.46 which in today's money is about 3 cents. They have very good reason for being upset when you try to mess up that prophecy.

No FW hate in my local GW. More like FW praise. They talk to their costumers about FW and post FW news on their Facebook page.

GW stores get no discount for FW and no revenue for their store. So they have to pay full price to have it sit on shelves. If they order it for you, they make zero profit on it. In fact, they have to eat the shipping costs which makes it a money losing prospect for orders under 250 pounds.

Every FW order placed in store is a sale lost of stuff they can sell you which goes towards their sale limits.

If they wanted to give GW stores FW product at a discount so they could sell them and bring a little money into the store, they would want to sell it. But right now, it is a total waste of their time to do so. Some GWs will organize 'group buys' so a group of people who may not have the means to purchase internationally can do so and to avoid shipping, but often that is done on the Manager's personal credit card for the 'good' of his store community.

Not anymore. Or at least - not every store. I was told I would have to pay shipping to have my local GW order something for me so I declined and decided to wait for some friends to group buy.

It only is if you think that money will be spent in store anyway. Most of the time that's wrong.

All the nearby GWs have a pretty good selection of FW books, although it does amuse me that one of them has a copy of the Taros Campaign sitting on the shelf that I doubt will ever move.

The GW in North Houston used to carry a limited number of FW books. Don't recall there ever being animosity about it.

My local stocks heaps of HH stuff and they're always keen to pimp it to me and let me know if a book is particularly good or not.

Lucky.... I joined 40k after my dads friend showed me his Horus heresy army and after reading the books it's pretty much what I like. I have a bit of 40k but after a while of it it doesn't compare to HH and I really want to buy it. So after badgering my GW they asked me if I want to go to Nottingham with them to buy it, i can't and now there's very little options left (parents refuse to buy stuff online due to past experiences)

Is the charging people for the shipping fees a new thing? When I inquired in store about buying some FW products via them the staff member was plugging it as a good idea because they just get the item through their regular stock, and thus didn't incur shipping fees. However when I asked him to confirm this with his manager he came back and said that they wouldn't pay for the shipping. He was confused about the matter, so I'm guessing its either new or not all stores do this.

Considering that FW charge 12% shipping it'd be cheaper for me to go to Edinburgh for my orders if they payed for them than directly from their site...

I feel like 'back in the day' they could order FW from GWUSHQ and in Glen Burnie they had tons of FW models on stock. So if someone wanted FW models, they got it from US HQ like everything else. I bought about 60-70% of my FW models from GWHQ in Glen Burnie before 2005.

I think that all changed when everything moved to Memphis. So now if a store wants to place an order with FW, they do it through the common-man online shopping cart like the rest of us folks, which means shipping costs and zero discount to MSRP.

My FLGS has a love hate relationship with Forgeworld. In a friendly game usually you'll find people stay clear from them. Though there are a few people who bring out these battlefoam chests that go passed my waist(I'm 6'2") filled with every cheese unit from Forge World they could get.

Its because of Cheese slingers at my FLGS that Forge World is slowly getting banned there. Luckily they are having Hardcore Tournaments every few months, but they still limit the use of certain Forge World Models and Army Lists.

Its not Forge World that is the problem its the people who abuse it to the point that you feel it is FW's fault. These are the type of people though that would find whatever cheese they could get at in any army(including normal armies) and serve it like a nice cheese dish of Limburger

forgeworld just looks nice to me...and since the UK pound is dropping and the CAN dollar is rising its becoming cheaper, soon GW's prices will match theirs and I'll make the trade up to forgeworld and laugh...or just collect Minions

One of the local GWs here got a copy of IA 11 for me, no shipping was added.

Most of the 4/5 GW stores near me have a small stock of FW books.

As for not having the models; most GW shops are too small to carry the whole GW range never mind the FW range of (not retail standard) baggies.

My local GW guy that I see seems to enjoy FW as much as I. Have a few IA books scattered about and even went into talking about how his looking forward to collecting the Primarchs. Never ordered anything from them for FW so not sure if they would do orders but employees are I’ve chatted up are very positive of FW.

Similar situation here as well. I allow FW models as "Count As" in any tournament that I do run and will not go to a tournament if FW rules are allowed. Just because of the BS I have seen and dealt with through out the years I've been playing (and paying) in this hobby.

Their exact response (Games Workshop Dublin) was:

"we will never stock forge world in store, however if you come along to the Warhammer World trip with us then you will be able to buy to directly from the store there."

Hardly anywhere near nasty or malicious.
