Ok - this list has a few toys.  I do think each serves a purpose and breaks up the monotony of a static gun line without losing too much in effectiveness.

Griffon Mortar Carrier; Improved Comms

Salamander Scout, Autocannon; Heavy Bolter; Pintle Heavy Stubber; Smoke Launchers

Changes I will make if consensus mandates it is to lose the death watch and the salamander.  I can replace these with another hellhound (3 total) and 2 Armoured fist units with autcannon, plasma gun, vet sergeant (these guys will move to adjacent quadrents and take side armour shots and could use the leadership boost), chimerae with heavy stubbers (these distract shots from hellhounds which are amazing).

My thoughts on the deathwatch are as a counter assualt unit - to give my backfield a little respect.  This has served well and does act as a deterrent.  The Salamander is purely there for variety - I plan to deploy it in cover and line up shots on where I think Landspeeders will finally end up.  Also it can zip 24 inches each turn 5 and 6 to find cover and secure a quadrant.  The griffon is good - there are times when I wish I had the range and ap of a bassie but its a good platform none the less.

I know I post alot of guard lists - please be patient as I find a list that works

Lose the Deathwatch. That's TWO armored fists' worth of points there (or an AF & Hellhound, as mentioned, but you'd lose the Salamander). I, too, like the nature of the Salamander. I can't always find points for it, but adding a Fast vehicle to a Guard list isn't a bad thing.

I know its the right thing too do - but I like having a unit that adds something more than just more of the same.

As long as you accept that you're taking a non-optomized list.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Hey, if you want your guard to move about why not use drop troops and/or vets/light infantry for infiltrators.

Ill drop the DeathWatch, keep the Salamnder with a heavy stubber and add 2 Armoured fist with Vet sergeants, autocannon, plasma guns in chimerae with heavy stubbers. Effeciency tells me to drop the Sallie as well and go with the 3rd Hellhound.
