Libby is looking great so far Gits... you gonna paint him standard Libby blue so he can jump back and forth between your different armies or use a hybrid blue green scheme for the Mantis Warriors only?

@wyfox: I blended the yellow to a lighter shade to suggest the light striking the blade from above. I still have to do some lining on the yellow to accentuate the shadows.

Yep, airbrushed w/ mask, then touched up the black by hand.

@graven: Oh, you're good. The body is actually the original metal terminator libby. What you can't see is that the arms are just vanilla marine arms which is why they're burried under all that frippery. The Iron Halo just happens to be the symbol for the epistolary (see above post from Alf) which is why I'm using it. Just kind of went nuts with my bits box. Love doing that.

@DSS: Thanks! He just kind of happened... but I'm really happy with him.

@Vit: Thanks, and me too! '-)

I don't like the MM and Heavy Bolter :( The other two look like they should be shoulder mounted... if a Marine Scout can carry a heavy bolter w/o power armor on, why should these chaps have to sling these bad boys over their shoulders.

Thanks for the spoiler Matrim.

Funny that these would come out just after I bought (second hand) a bunch of the original beakie HW guys (well, las cannons anyway). I like them, though I suppose you'd have to buy them in the above set, in which case I'd probably only use the outer two. There are FW bits merchants popping up now, maybe I'll have a chance to snag the plasma cannoneer at some point in the future.

Yes, stupid positioning on the left hand, but you can always swap out arms. Though if you gave that arm a little push button control with a cable running to the back of the weapon, it would probably look OK. Really like the las cannon and plasma cannon though, and the legs on the third guy are fantastic!

Wow! The legs look awesome

I agree though, I was looking at the guns yesterday, and the multi-melta and heavy bolter are disappointing. Am I the only one who notices the similarity between the Heavy-Bolter and the Fuel Rod gun from the Halo saga?

Hey BLACKHAND... sorry I missed responding to your post yesterday... missed it.

That's a very good question and one I was going to pose to the blog. My current thought is do him in a chapter neutral blue scheme so I can use him with any space marine army... (cough). I will probably make a chapter specific libby or two for my later period Mantis Warriors, but for now I think I'm best served all-round by making a more generic figure.

For those of you who might be wondering what happened to vent's vanguard model, the reason I haven't been working on it is that there's a part of it that I'm not happy with... so have been giving it some time to sit and let me think about it. The part I'm not happy with is the white helmet. I don't know if it's my poor paint job or the fact that the white is just too jarring... but I don't like the way it looks. Time and do consideration haven't altered my opinion, so I think I'll be changing the helmet to gold instead (which will also work with the other gold bits on the model). It's a relatively simple change & I'm confident with my gold, but one I hope will make a significant difference in the appearance of the model. Once that's done, with the addition of some purity seals, the vanguard should be finished and ready for the long trip to vent on the other side of the planet! :-)

I would go with the standard libby color scheme. Shows your warriors are loyal codex following astartes of the imperium, not some blowhards that wanted to steal gene-seeds

I think that the blue would stand out enough against the wall of green and yellow, giving your army its own little light in the warp

Just because it fits with the conversation... this is actually the first photo I uploaded to dakka. My old jump pack libby... he got a bit of an upgrade to his paint job a year or so ago & I still use him all the time (the bolt pistol dates him). I'd like to selectively strip his chest eagle and re-paint it... but I'm not sure I want to risk having the acetone wander all over the figure & ruin it.

Because the current paint job is too thick?

Otherwise, I really have not had too much trouble going over another paint job as long as I keep the layers thinned with water (and some flow aid).

Personally, I think the green on the should pad is what looks splotchy. Green can be such a bugger to paint.

Yep, it's already been painted over at least once, so I don't want to hit it with a third layer as it would lose even more detail.

The shoulder pad *is* splotchy... it's successive layers of very thin, lighter shades of green to get the highlight.

Hmmm. I wonder if you can paint acetone on then. Maybe prime a model and splash some paint on gitz and see what happens.

Perhaps a lightly acetone-saturated cotton bud could do the trick?

I was thinking along wyfox's lines, but a cotton swab might work... Though it might be safest to apply the acetone with a brush (less absorptive) and remove it with a cotton swab.

The bikes and the libby are looking good Gits.

One thought on the bike doing the wheelie. Due to the position of the bike you will need to take in consideration when basing it the effect the exhausts will have had on the surrounding terrain to bring him to that position.

Just an idea for something a bit different you could do when basing it.

That's an excellent suggestion GiraffeX. Please feel free to remind me about it when I get around to the basing. (I'm serious... )

No progress last night. Had a cub scout picnic & didn't get home 'till 9. At that point I was all-in. The fact that I slept 9 hours straight through to 6 am suggests that I needed the extra hours. Kids had fun though and I get to introduce them to "Chicago style" softball... which was fun!

There will be progress today though.

Sorry Miss Dee. Not this round anyway. Part of what makes the tranquility pattern so cool is it's limited distribution within the army. If *everything* is in tranquility pattern, it looses it's novel aspects.

Speaking of the librarian... here is the complete build.

I like the build of that old school libby. You've turned him from static to stoic. Will he be your 3rd MW libby?
