I'm looking to get some tanks and I was wondering if there's actually any real difference between Chaos and loyalist tanks besides the spikes and insignias. Like, if I bought a Chaos Rhino and didn't put the spikes on it, would it be pretty much just the same exact thing as the loyalist version aside from the Chaos star? Or is there an actual structural difference?

The second question has to do with repairing an old kit. My Dad found my oldest brother's old nearly completed Land Raider from years ago. This is the old boxy version with the cream colored plastic that didn't take to paint all that well. Anyway, the thing is all beat to hell and missing a bunch of parts, namely its sponson guns, the twin bolters from its top turret, the plow, and I'm sure a few gubbins here and there. What I want to know is, can I salvage the sponson turrets from any of the new kits to repair this thing? Like on the Predator, are the sponsons separate components? Would I be able to get a Predator and just use its sponson guns on my old Landraider?

Yes, stuff like the Rhino kits are identical except for having different transfers and vehicle accessory sprues.

And yes, it should be possible to put new Land Raider lascannon sponsons onto the old Land Raider - BUT you'd need some converting skills. Ditto using Predator bits, i suppose, if you want a LR with non-standard weapons. Also be warned that the modern kit look isn't a great match for the old LR. Personally I'd make the old LR into a nice piece of 'wrecked vehicle' terrain instead.

That old Land Raider is a piece of GW history! I've seen side sponsons added from the modern day kits, they do require some trickery to add, but look great once on. I would refer to the forge world pre heresy models to get that old school look with the sponsons.

I say go for converting it! People love seeing rogue trader era stuff on the table.
