Hi dakka, I'm attempting to make an oil wash using oil paints and white spirits but I'm having trouble as the oil paint will not mix with the white spirits. I'm attempting to use diggers methylated spirits which is available here in Australia - is this the wrong ingredient? I've watched videos by Les Bursley and BuyPainted and they seem simple to follow but I feel as if I've missed something or making a simple mistake I've overlooked. Any advice or help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Cheers.

I use oderless mineral spirits but I think that is the same thing as white spirits. Might not be. The oil will settle if you let it sit. More of less it allows you to wash with it and then the mineral spirits evaporate away leaving wash wherever you put it.

I've seen several types - turpentine, turpenoid, Windsor & Newton's white spirits... Although google says that white spirit and turpentine are the same thing.
