Over five years ago, my girlfriend and I started making buildings and other pieces of terrain for wild west 28mm games. We both try to do one major piece each winter. Our initial inspiration came from the Warhammer Historical Legends of the Old West book. Try to get a hold of a printed copy. The other day I discovered Blackwater Gulch and it absolutely made my day. I am very excited that there is going to be a US-based rules set and product line that is going to justify this hobby that we have. So for my first ever post here on the forum, I decided to show off our terrain pieces.

Wowza! That looks great.

Especially love the abandoned mine. Not too big to dominate the table.

Is there anything inside the school/church? It looks like the roof comes off.

Wow that all looks great. I like the mine too, gonna have to steal that idea.

When I was first starting out I was planning to make all of my buildings and everything from scratch, but I just never have the time. I've been using mostly all laser cut wood kits.

The steeple comes off so that a sniper can get up inside. I use funtack to hold it in place. The roof does come off but, as of now, there is only an empty room.

Very kewl trick with the bell tower.

Any chance of some info on how you made the mine?

That is some really nice work. Love the mine and chicken coop. Where did you find the chickens?

Thanks. They came from eggs, which came from... Actually, they came from Mega Miniatures. I believe she got them from their eBay store.

I bought a cheapy plastic O scale barn at a train shop that came with a bunch of little farm critters too, always meant to paint them up but never got around to it. I think the company was Bachmann. It's a little more modern but still looks good enough.

I guessing that your plate is full, but I think you should give it a try sometime.

The woman did the mine entrance. She put waaaay too much work into it as I recall. She abandoned the project for a year and then finished it later. The base was foam board. The main body of the piece was built up with a combination of extruded polystyrene pieces and then some paper mache to make a rocky-ridge texture in certain places. She made the scrubby trees from twisted wire covered in green stuff and flock. The actual entrance is made of little wood pieces. There was a lock of grass flocking and paint.

When we use the mine entrance in convention or store games, everyone hopes that the mine leads to another board where they can explore the mine. It is a great idea, but I don't know if it will ever happen. The entrance only goes back a few inches.

Ooh, a mine board could be very kewl indeed.

Thanks for the details on making the entrance. It seems simple enough, might have to give it a go myself.

That photo was taken at a used book store that was rearranging inventory. It took me awhile to understand what you meant about lit majors.

Looks fantastic, on the right board it could reach the level of the sublime!
