Hello
I have just ordered myself an Ork bommer
when I get it I will post construction pictures (i plan on making a dakkajet)
but the main point is that using the spares i intend to convert a BAe Sea Harrier FRS-1( 1:48 scale)
into an Ork bommer (i also intend to post pictures of this as horrible of a train wreck as it will be )
so what i wanted to ask was any ideas for the flight stand?
I want the conversion to have a more interesting
stand than a metal rod or the gw flight stand (which i will use on the dakka jet, but sand it so it sits more comfortably and doesn't fall off.)

thanks ^^

Maybe hide the flight stand in a huge cloud of smoke from a burning wreck the orks just made?

I glued some foam fillers to the stand that were roughly shaped and then glued Woodland Scenics tree foliage to it. spray it black, some flamey colours down the bottom and a few drybrushes of different greys and its done.

If you use their Fall Foliage mix, the flame colors are done for you. Just spray a few light passes with black, then a slight dusting of gray - the red/orange/yellow is then only visible in the depths, where the actual explosion would be happening.

Yup. An age old establishment.

I've had orky flyers where the miniature has clipped its wing on a rock or something of the like. You could try getting some tall urban sceneryor something of the like. To compromise you could try doing the smoke thing, as above, only trailing behind the engines. The edge of the smoke could clip a piece of terrain or you could make it look like the plane has just pulled out of a dive.

ok the smoke cloud seems pretty popular also scenery on the base sounds awesome
I sculpted an ork totem would it look good on the base or is that just over crowding
it if i do put it on i will cast it in resin (at the moment it's 'newplast') . Im thinking something like a burning orky temple type thing
also by foam are we talking about that expanded insulation foam just so i am clear on what to look for?

These kinds of smoke/flame plumes are really easy to make actually.

All you do is take a base shape underneath and glue clump foliage on it (woodland scenics for example) and the prime it black. Now dry brush flamey colours near the base and greys up the sides.

For Flames of War our group uses a nickel, with a wire spiralling up off it (glued down of course) and then clump foliage superglued to the wire and painted as mentioned.

Great effect for very little cost, though it takes a fair bit of time to complete.

So here's an update sorry about the blurriness and general time taken to actually get round to posting.

i have undercoated it and dry brushed a base layer of tin bitz, and have started painting the pilot.
i will post pictures soon.
though unfortunately i have run out of the main colour for my armies paint scheme so there may be a delay before it's finished.
