How generally do you go about making one of these guys? I'm slowly building my Chaos warband up. You can see pics of them all in my gallery, but I'm missing a commander. I am having a hard time figuring out how to really make him look all that different from the rest of his troops. How do the rest of you normally go about making an aspiring champion? I mean, should I just make him like the rest and just say "that's the aspiring champion"?

I generally try to make them as over-the-top as possible. They're awesome/veteran/crazies amongst awesome/veteran/crazy marines for the most part. Honestly, find a wargear selection that works for you, if need be use some pins/GS to move arms around. Most important thing is that you're happy with the result!

Well an aspiring champion is usually just a squad leader for your average csm squad. If that's what you mean then all the parts and options to make him are in the 10 man squad box. But you said you want him as your commander? You might be thinking of a chaos lord. To make a chaos lord, just basically take extra bitz and weapons you think look cool to create a larger and visually imposing figure, possibly with some sort of special weapon. Hope that helps

TBH I think any of the chosen out of dark vengeance would make decent lords or aspiring champions. There is also a chaos lord/sorcerer in terminator armor kit if you want something bigger, more imposing, and generally harder to kill, which is is a good idea with the newest chaos codex and having to challenge. You can make a decent one out of just the regular 10 man CSM box, though, if you feel like putting forth some work. There's lots of crazy heads to work with as well as tons of wargear to choose from. After you get a few squads together you'll have an overflowing bits box that's great just for this sort of thing.

A nice way of kiting out your squadleader and hqs are cloaks. Ether cut up some cloaks from the warriors of chaos fantasy models or the scale cloaks from the dark elf corsairs. Also there are 3rd party vendors that are making cloaks that will fit onto space marines.
