I don't have anything terrible but not to long ago the blueshirt at my local gw is a massive ultramarines fan and i once casualy mention that i dont like ultramarines and that their fluff is to clean and roman , so he goes into a bout of rage saying "how can you say that , what do you mean roman" and then tells me to walk away from the table and to buy something or leave , so i bought that paint i had planned to buy , the most annoying thing is that he has before passed "judgement " on my corsairs and that i think wood elves are horrid. hes cooll most of the time but some times complete graker

Well, despite being over a month ago, I'm responding to this one. The sorest loser I've seen is one of my buddies (although honestly, he's not that bad by comparison). After one particular loss (his proxy army on mine, which had a few borrowed models) he flung one of my models across the table and basically said that a rule was bull . (He lost an entire Necron Warrior squad and a Necron Lord on about turn 3 due to being escorted off the board). Thankfully, the model in question was a plastic Tau Crisis Suit, hadn't had much work done on it, and most importantly, didn't break.
The other time was when he lost his (much later) Tau command squad of a Shas'o with two bodyguards to a sweeping advance by my Wolf Lord and his squad of Grey Hunters. He basically kicked a wall in frustration and seemed close to tears over it. Which is a shame, because the game actually wound up in a minor loss on my part...(and thankfully, the wall in question was like 8 inches of concrete or so)

My store is actually pretty good. Probably the worst experience I had there was when a D&D session was held there. That in itself wasn't to bad. They only take up one table and there are plenty others to play on. The horrible part was this disgusting man who obviously never been taught a thing about personal hygeine. He had really bad patchy baldness that was probably cause by scabies or something, only 3 teeth, and his BO was so horrible that with both the front and back doors of the shop open, there was still no place in the building that you could escape the smell. And this is probably a good 1500 square foot store.
The manager kept dropping loud and not so subtle hints that the guy straight up stank and needed to leave, but either this man was beyond ignoring such comments, or was dumb as a brick. I never saw him there again, so I'm guessing the GM of that session just decided to stop inviting him until he learned what a shower was. In my old group back in Japan, we had a SW player who would chuck his own models when he was losing a game or something. To the rest of us it was something we saw as being funny, because he always treated the rest of our stuff with the utmost respect.
Well I played him in a game one day, and let him use a few of my marines to fill in a squad of his. Things started going bad for him, and he picked up one of the dead models from the side of the table, and threw it across the room. About 5 seconds later we both realized it was one of my models. Turns out it landed behind a vending machine that weighed about 500lbs or was bolted to the floor or something. At anyrate, that model was long gone. He was extremely apologetic, and rushed back to his room and kit bashed a new plasma gunner for me as a replacement. Since the lost model wasn't one of my painted ones I was happy enough.

ALL, the kids are annoying at GW Derby, shouting and screaming, not playing properly, I try to go when there aren't any. But the Managers are cool and so are the adults. One kid is about 7 with hair down to his shoulders, he is one of those with really badly painted minis, what he does is: 1. Tips his models over when they die 2. Doesn't put anything in proper squads 3. Goes crazily hyper when given sugar, talks very, very loudly and quickly 4. When you unleash a good special rule he will make one up to counter it 5. When you tell him he is doing something wrong (ie cheating) he'll just go 'shhh' And his mum just sits there and watches.

Worst gaming experience I've ever had was this time I was visiting a Gaming Store in southern WV. We were in town for a trip visiting some relatives, and I decided to pop into one of the LGS's in the area. In the back of the room there was a 40k game going on between an Eldar Player and this teen playing Orks. The kid, maybe 15 or 16, was a totally stereotypical West Virginia country bumpkin. I'm talking cue the little twang from Deliverance when this kid walks into the store country bumpkin. So the games getting pretty heated; the Ork kid is getting totally devastated by Eldar firepower. I could tell the kid was getting irritated, and I saw that he was doing something under the table. I leaned over to see exactly what he was doing when suddenly, out of nowhere the kid bursts into action and screams (with an incredibly obnoxious and heavy hickish accent) "I FIRE MAH GUN AT YOU!" This kid chucks a lit cherry bomb at one of the Eldar player's Falcons. It explodes right on top of the tank, completely wrecking the thing. Needless to say, the store owner and other patrons of the store colaboratively restrained the Eldar player and dragged the kid out of the store. I don't know what the hell happened after that because I left on that note, but I found it incredibly disturbing that this kid had to resort to explosives to solve his problems o_O.

PIX or it didn't happen!! Hopefully he got dragged out without his models, and the Eldar player added to his suddenly growing Ork collection?

I must admit since I got back into the hobby I've not had a bad experience in a GW store, most of the time I get on well with the staff (although the mob in Cambridge are very pushy when it comes to getting a sale) and pretty much everyone who turns up on Thursday nights at Norwich.
However first time round (3rd ed 40k) I did have some very bad experiences mainly with the GW Norwich staff, none of them were interested in helping someone who back then was new to the whole hobby, they didn't even try to sell me anything (which is really weird). Being completely ignored over a period of about 4 years really was off putting, and annoyingly at the time with no access to online ordering (parental refusal) the Norwich GW was the only place where I could regularly buy stuff.
Back in 1999/2000 there was the massive free for all game I wanted to play in, no sign up needed just turn up on the day, 500pts last man standing wins. Apparently since I was the last person to arrive before the game started (note deployment hadn't started) I was only allowed a single squad of marines. I just turned round and left as I clearly wasn't welcome. Never played a game in a GW again until this year.

Yeah I was surprised too. I mean when it exploded it was literally right on top of the falcon. It was probably fixable, but the paint and plastic was warped and melted where the cherry bomb blew up.

The last time I brought my brother to play 40k at my FLGS, who made quite a show with his terrible sportmanship.
He was up against a Space Wolf(current codex) player with his C:SM. Throughout the game he was making remarks over how he had distaste in proxy armies, although he was using a multi-melta on his land raider although it wasn't there, and said things like "you're scum" in thinking that it was a friendly jesture when some CC scouts came on to the board to take out his sniper scouts. But where it gets interesting is when his chaptermaster dies. He yells his signature losing yell, pushes his chair away from the table shaking it up a bit and starts crying. I was stuck embarrassingly patting his head and motivating him to finish his game for 8 minutes or so. Good thing I'm friends with the SW player and everyone else who was there or else I'd be getting quite the hateful looks at my FLGS. Nowadays my brother's still a awful sport when he's playing his video games and every now and then I yell at him to calm down or get off.
Although he is a bad sport I don't blame him for yelling and crying from losing to the current Space Wolves as I hear that quite some people wish to do so as well.

One of the worst things that has happened to me at a lgs was when I showed up for a tournament and found that someone was using my favorite and best painted models that had been stolen from the store a few months earlier (IE my entire Salamanders army at the time) when I had gone to the bathroom and came back to fine that my case was missing.
What the guy didnt know what that I had engraved my name into the inside of the bases of all my marines. I promptly called him out and showed him the engravings. After many minutes of arguing and him claiming that they were his the store owner escorted him out of the store. He was actually banned from the store and had the cops called on him for petty theft.
So as a warning to everyone dont leave your cases in the open when using the rest room. At least have the store owners look after it if they can.

It was more than petty theft.... But that was the only word that came to mind lol. its was a 2000 pt salamanders army which consisted of 2 8 man squads of termies w/ 2 land raiders, right there is $200 the army case it was in was $140. Add 3 Squads of marines w/ rhinos a Vindi and to preds. I dont know the exact price but there were other models also in the bottem of the case.

The thing that ruins the experience for me are the loudmouth people who cannot separate fluff from reality and constantly bring up fluff to make him sound awesome.
and the worst part is I actually have a friend who I go to gw with and hes just constantly making stupid world of warcraft references, and keeps going on an ON! about how his space marines do such and such and how they would tear apart anything cuz they where shiny blue armor, and he always has to have the last word on everything and tried to one-up you with his fluff Bull S***
and then when he loses he whines a moans about how things were unfair, how everything goes against him and blablabla!
sorry if that was a bit of a rant, I have alot of pent up agitation from him, and how other people act. Its a game chill

My worst FLGS experience was saved and its all because of dakka.
I was playing at the store a few months ago and there were a bunch of games going on. I wasn't really paying attention to the other people playing except one kid who kept coming over to admire my painted FW biker boss. He kept asking questions about it, how did i paint it, etc. He said he got one but hasn't painted it yet, he asked me to trade his for mine a few times, i wasn't really interested in, and wanted to keep playing my game.
Anyway my biker boss was killed turn 2 and i put him away in my bag and turn three comes around and i always like to take a break to smoke, think about the game, stretch, go to the bathroom whatever. when i come back i notice that kid isn't hanging around anymore, he's at the front getting ready to check out. for some reason my spider sense is tingling and i check my bag and the biker boss is gone. I run up to the front of the store and see he's buying a bunch of the paints i told him i used on my boss. i tell him to open his bag and let me see what he's got cause my boss was gone. he didn't want to but i guess i can be pretty intense sometimes, as i'm a former marine and covered in tattoos. so he opens the bag and lo there's my boss. he tries saying that its his and the store manager is starting to agree with him because he knows the kid and knows he has the fw boss. and i rarely go to that store. anyway to prove that its mine i bring dakka up on my phone and show him the pictures of my boss that i posted here. the manager says to the kid i think you better give it back.
so thatnks dakka.

Worst GW experience ever.
Got talked into doing a tournament in GW by a friend who does it. Second game, I am playing a cheater who also has a completely unpainted SW army. I can't tell what is what, and he keeps swapping his units between each other, and doesn't even bring a fecking army list with him. I beat him ingame. He complained about my tactics, so I took it outside. Told him downright to shut his face about it.
Oh and the raffle where I won every prize but one, but the GW store manager was an asswipe about it and refused to let me have the grand prize even AFTER I gave back the eldar strikeforce boxed set.
Phht.
He no longer works at GW.
Finally. Big apocalypse game. Guy has 2 squads in Chimeras, but leaves them on the table. I position marbo on the table to menace the two squads. The guy said they were being transported, and I pointed out their bases were on the table. he says *ease of placement* or some ****. I bought over the GW store guy, explained the situation. I got a redeploy on marbo, he got warned to keep transported troops off the table, or on the tank. Second one was a guy who popped a trygon in front of all my super-heavies (banehammer, shadowsword, baneblade) and got it blown away. Foom. Guy went to tears, and shouted at me *not fair you F*****g asswipe*. He got ordered to pack his models and leave. Five minutes later, there's a pile of tyranids in the corner next to the store entrance, the guys chucked them, so the store manager grabs them, and keeps them. Five days later he returns when I am instore, and apologises, then gives me cash for swearing at me...

Not really a gaming a gaming issue but at the Northridge, CA GW shop I had paid for something with my CC and then went to the food court. Realized that the GW guy never gave me my CC back. Went back to the store (Was gone all of 10 minutes) and he had already CUT UP AND TRASHED my CC stating that it was store policy that they cut up every CC that get's left there.... I don't live in CA... I was on vacation visiting a friend and that was my only way to pay for stuff. There were no weird charges or anything like that... But the hassle of having to get a new CC and borrow cash from my friend for the remainder of my vacation was a real pain

Oh so typical... I haven't exeprienced quite a thing like that "don't you dare be negative about my army".
I do absolutely hate all GW/ FLGS employees who ask "what army?" and respond to your reply with "what? that sucks! you should do the same army as me, or the brand new one that has just been released blahblah". I really hate that kind of thing, i hate it in players but it annoys me even more if it is a GW employee! these people should respond to the army in question with:
"oh, that's nice, have you got that certain relevant unit/character that could be effective for that army?"
and then I'd be like "no that certain relevant unit/character does not suit the style of my army which uses tactics and troops like so-and-so. Actually I am looking for this other relevant unit which might benefit my army greatly the way I play it"
and he'd say: "Indeed sir, If you use tactics and troops like so-and-so that other relevant unit might work wonders for the success of your battle plans. We have it right here, is there anything else you need?"
"Well, no, thank you, how much does this box cost?"
"Oh that's this price, do you want glue or paint with it"
"No thanks, I"still have enough, here's the money for the miniatures"
"Very good, thank you very much, have a nice day sir"
"You're welcome, have a nice day too sir"
"I will, thanks"
what a wonderfull world it would be if all us GW customers would have experiences like that.
After an "armee=sux" remark I am so tempted to ask "dude, how old are you? seven? go play stratego if your so obsessed with one-upmanship" but I'm way too polite and haven't been to a GW in ages.

RiTides wrote:I had a pretty miserable experience a few months ago. I've just started playing small tourneys and events for WHFB, and I was psyched for the "North American Tournament" and talked to the local GW manager about it. We talked several times since there are a few stores in the area that I could play at. We only had 3 of us signed up for the local store, so he called a friend earlier in the week to be an opponent for me, and it was all set.
Three of us showed up with well painted armies... the friend had an army that was falling apart and with some unpainted models. It was skaven, and some units he just piled onto a movement tray. His trays were larger than needed, so he often moved them saying that he "meant for them to be here". He got upset when I charged the flank of a unit, saying I should have warned him when he moved it.
He also mopped the floor with my army (figuratively speaking), only I found out on the last turn that he took an illeagal list.
I was bummed because I'd been talking to the manager about it for a few weeks, and would have much rather played the game at another store than have him line up this opponent for me...
I haven't been back to the store since then, although I think it's been long enough that I might give it another try. I don't know, I'd rather go to a store that plans out their events and pulls them off well.
I hate it when stuff like that happens.
By contrast, my best gaming experience so far has been the tournament at mikhaila's store. Aces all the way! I'll definitely be attending more events there in the future, despite the drive.

This one isn't mine, but my buddy's. I was with him at the time, and while I personally had a blast, he was really pissed off at what happened.
Basically, one of the guys at my FLGS decided to organize an 18,000 point Apoc game for the one off-week between league cycles. Good vs. Evil, 9000 points a side, 1500 points a player. Well, everyone brought what they had to the table, and my own Wolves decided to try out the Steinhammer's Wulfen Guard (to great effect, I might add) to take on the enemy. The problem was, all lists are not created equal. That is to say, one person brought a Warlord Titan to the field. Yes, it's 2500 points - he was acting as two people that game, and donated his 500 extra to another player.
Unfortunately, what wound up happening was that the Titan, with all of its wonderful Strength D super-large-blast template weapons, tabled my bud on turn one. Well, not totally - the guy had one Broadside left. But still, all he had was a deployment phase followed by a packing up one. The game in general was just a slaughterfest, with the Titan single-handedly taking on about 4 different armies (Tau - the first turn table, a Guard player, a Blood Angels player, and me with my Wolves).
While I thought the game was just hilarious in general, it was probably my buddy's worst experience at the store.

I've already posted my worst, but my most entertaining moment in a GW was when a nine year old started complaining at me because I was winning. I'm sure you guys have seen this before, and may have even experienced the feeling. It naturally occurs when your younger, from what I've gathered. So, you start to lose, and first of all you grumble about unfair opponents armies. When that works, you try and make it out that you wanted to lose all along, and to quote the kid:
"Good, I wanted my battle suits to die!"
And, as you still lose, when dice rolls seem to go against you at every turn, you start to watch other games, and just forfeit your turn, and maybe, maybe you even begin to pack up your army.
Wasn't that great, so a nice GW staff member came over and took charge of the kid's army, who had wandered off to complain to his mum or something. Either way, I actually lost the game, as the GW guy strategically obliterated my Synapse critters with cruel efficiency.
So... yeah. I don't really enjoy playing against kids, as they tend not to take loss well, which leads to them making mistakes, and so on and so forth.
By the by, best moment in GW recently would be when I listened into a GW guy trying to explain to someone that they cant really field a dragon and two griffon heroes in a game of 500pts.
Made me chortle!

I carry a small bottle of Axe spray in my backpack for these types of situations. One of my biggest pet peeves though, is when they purposely fart in a crowded area and laugh about it as if it's the most hilarious thing they've ever seen/done. Unfortunately, this happened to me before I started carrying the spray can, otherwise I probably would've emptied the entire can into his face....
But onto my worst experience, it was during a game that I was playing with a friend at my local FLGS. I'm pretty close and friendly with a lot of the regulars, and because so, I feel fairly safe about leaving some of my personal affects out in the open during gaming (ie - my phone, glasses, keys). One day, before going to a family gathering, I had a few hours to kill before the party, so I went to the FLGS to get a game of Axis and Allies (my gateway game to 40K, if you will). Anyways, it was a hot day, and I tend to sweat pretty easily. So I took off my watch (an Omega limited edition), placed it on the table, roll up my sleeves, and start going about the game. I noticed later a few new guys walking into the store, and they circle around the table my friend and I are playing at. After awhile, they leave, and my friend and I continue our game. Later, I notice that my watch is missing. Later, I asked my friend who worked there if he knew the kids that walked in earlier, and he said they didn't look familiar, in fact was even a little cautious of them being there in the first place. Mind you, it was also a Saturday afternoon, and there was a CCG tournament going on, so his attention was taken up most of the afternoon.
Needless to say, I was furious about having my watch stolen, but to the stores' and the regulars' credit, they all helped my try to find it at least. Since then, I've been a lot more careful with leaving my things around, and I still go back to that store each time I get a chance to. And of course, I now keep an eye out for potential "bad eggs".

That's the general issue with "free for all" style Apocalypse games. You really need to have a pretty tight control on who brings what. And by "tight control" I mean "step on some necks from the start."
It's unfortunate but Apocalypse games tend to be " TFG Gatherings"
