Yeah what Rythem said, we're not super comp players in the least, except at a tourney.

Speaking of which anyone else know if they're going to the tourney on Sat at HSG?

Just in case it doesn't happen I'd like to make sure I can at least get some games in.

Heavy Support Games, eh? I usually go to the Games Workshop in Square One in Mississauga but I haven't played a game there...or anywhere else that isn't my friend's house or my house. I go to York University on Keele and am trying to reach out to beyond my immediate circle of friends for games.

HSG is good, not too far out for most of us. Good amount of tables and great selection of terrain.

Unfortunately they ditched a bunch of their boards, but they have 2 good ones still and lots of those felt battle mats.

Staff is friendly and helpful and they have great discounts under retail to boot.

Not sure who will be there sunday. We are planning to meet tomorrow for the tourney i believe. I can't go both days, but if you decide to come tomorrow and the touney is not in full swing, make sure to have your army. I am always down for small beginner games. Playing is the best way to learn.

@Jasonbi: I believe I'm going to be meeting up with my brother (who is also new) and some other guys at HSG today. If you wanted to come down and check out a few games on your way to work, someone should be there. But be warned, once you watch a game in person, you have very little time before you need to play yourself, or your brain will explode from the pent up awesome.

I stopped by the GW at Yonge and Lawrence, store and signed up for the 1000 point tourney on the 28th, there's still a number of spots open if people are interested

Yeah, I guessed as much, not to mention GW models only, so you won't have to face my mech-IG

I'll probably bring my Orks, they've been itchin to bust out and crush some skullz!

I've gotten pretty busy between school and Styro enslaving me to paint his Red Corsairs (my whip cuts are still raw and burning).

Headed to Heavy Support Games this Sunday with an equally new to the game friend just after they open to play a very small (slightly over 500 point) match for the first time featuring mainly Black Reach models, a Killa Kan, Lootas, DC and Lemartes.

Not looking to be completely obliterated by someone looking for an easy win.

Welcoming any sagely observes who want to point out what were doing wrong.

I actually stopped in to the GW on my way home from work yesterday and the guy said they'd like them based to be entered into the "best painted", but I don't believe it's required to play.

@Jasonobi, You'll be surprised at how little you learn from a win. Not only do you learn more from losing, you also tend to learn more from really bad loses, especially if you play it out and try new things on the way down.

Not completely true, for store tournaments sure but in general I havent seen painted models or 100% WYSIWYG at both the Yonge or Langstaff GW.

I actually prefer a close game, win or lose its engaging for all players and has exciting and memorable moments for everyone.

I know, but my comment was regarding an upcomming tourney at a GW store. I played against him at the HSG tourney and wanted to make sure he didn't bring an unpainted army and be told that he was only going to be a spectator.

Did anyone else sign up at the GW yonge/lawrence for the 28th?

@ Kungfu: My IG army is also mainly 3rd party models, which I don't think they'd look kindly on

Also, sorry to bail but I won't be able to make it this Sunday down to HSG.

I've finally figured out how to access all the readings and assignments for my class (it's online) and I just realized there is a TON of stuff I missed that I'm expected to have ready for Monday.

1500 pts? Are some proxies ok? (IE unpainted, or tac marines for assault?)

I was definitely jonesing to get some games in on Sunday.

I even took a break from reading to roll some dice

@Optimus, yeah proxies are no problem, I'm using BAAL's as Hydras and CGB is going to run 2 Rhinos as a Ghost Ark

We're meeting at about 6:15- 6:30 (I get off work at 6 at Yonge+Finch)
