, thank you. It does. Old PC power button, scavenged for parts long ago, angled filed. Guess even sideways, it doesn't look tauish enough, might have to put it under the Dremmel too...
xXWeaponPrimeXx wrote:Uhhh, I may have missed it, but what'd you use at the base of that railgun?

Mostly custom made. The rearmost piece is part of a cable splitter (the piece where a multi-thread wire opens up in separate cords, each with its own connector), more rubbery than plastic. The other part on the rear, where the barrels start, is trimmed from a larger, random (read: unknown origin; probably part of a cannibalized inkjet printer, most surely cousin to the aforementioned PC) piece.

As a side note to that, the rubber/soft plastic piece does not seem to have taken the primer well, and is still sticky; I just hope it dries up eventually...

Actually, I agree. Either IG or terrain (and imperial at that) are more of my thing too, but, as you said, I couldn't pass on the challenge and give a try at those curves !

Nothing more done since the last update, yard-cleaning duties yesterday (I guess the swearing the other day was coarser than I'd though, and dishes weren't enough ), now I have almost a Prius worth of leaves and branches outside waiting for pick-up by the curb, but no advances hobby-wise

Will be back to it soon.

Cheers.

By the foot of the Andes

Over a month and a half later…

It took some time – several weeks went by with nothing done hobby-wise –, until I got back to the workbench this weekend, and got some things back on track.

Being happy enough with the Scratchmmerhead’s main hull basic shape, I turned to the landing pads before going back onto the bigger pieces:

(In the last row, a “real” piece for comparison. Mine are purposefully a tad shorter - the landing gear compartments will be shallower than in the original model -, but pleased with them in general).

I also got a very late start on the ongoing LoER Comp:

Lots of great takes on the subject already going on, so I tried to go for a basic, rough, field look.

An initial WIP of the outhouses to hold them:

And after some panelling:

(The sepia tone in the midle pics is only due to a hard-to-manage white balance, and does not reflect the actual colouring, sorry about that).

Plan A, finish detailing and painting this piece, to get something properly finished – even if falling short – before the Comp’s end.

One (if!) done, there are a couple more ideas floating around to incorporate this into a larger piece, thinking about a similar-looking shower block (and a water heater?), maybe.

Thanks for stopping coming back!

Cheers,

LT

Nice work on the Scratchmerhead. And what are those bits used for the latrine? And you could always make one of latrines a she-inal. (Google will explain.) Looks like a promising start.

Thanks to all!

I was not really away, still checked in every now an then and followed other’s progresses (or should it be prowesses?), I just hadn't gotten around to do much up to now…

And I guess I am more a passive reader than an active poster most of the time, not too prone to comment if I don’t think I might have something to add (Not that I always do, but I try), so I stayed a bit quiet lately too.

But now I'm fully back on the swing .

Hibernating sounds good, and Brazil even better, but no, sadly . I got around to light the fireplace a couple times lately though, and did watch some games at least, so not all is lost...

Slabs are just scratch built, a slightly less than 2x2cm, 2mm styrene square, and 1 mm footrests over that, engraved with a V shaped file for the non-slip strips.

Plumbing is made from a bent piece of Q-tip shaft (with a short piece of metal wire within, to ease the curve and keep the shape), and a thin slice from another plastic tube (of unknown origin) for the pipe collar.

Praise Google, but I think I’ll stick to coed squatting slabs for the time being (I’d never seen, nor heard, about those before, BTW. Only old-school sanitary around, I suppose )
Viktor von Domm wrote:welcome back LT...

and the whole complex looks very cool already!

I just drilled a 4 mm hole and then shaped the opening with a round dremmel grinding bit (low speed, to prevent melting the plastic).

I reckon those corrugated sheets are not going to rust for themselves (not in the Comp’s time frame, at least), so I’d better get back to the workbench…

Cheers, and thanks for reading.

They were proposed for a new baseball stadium in Baltimore, back in the early '90's. The thinking was to alleviate the lengthy lines that always form outside of women's restrooms. They were not installed though. But they make a funny reference.

Thanks for the description of the facilities.

And at least Argentina has a chance to win. I won't say the same for El Equipo Estadounidense. But then, Association Football is not the top sport hereabouts.

@Camkierhi: Thank you.

As it was hard to see all in white, I partially quick-primed it to get a better view:

Bottom vents could use some trimming or some other way to improve alingment and/or sharpen the edges, at least.

C&C are always welcome.

Easiest way to align those vents is to use a spacer...glue one vent on, lay down the spacer and glue the next vent next to it. remove spacer, place on other side of newly glued vent... perfect alignment.

That's in the future eh? The ones on the 'fish are going to need filing and trimming instead. I don't envy you that task.

Very nice progress though. And the top is the important part. That looks very good. A bit more filler on the nose?

When all but hope was lost, and after a two month travel time (Yes, well into the 21st century, it still took almost as much as it did in the age of wooden sailboats!), it is finally here!

Behold!

It looks even better in person than it does in the pics, I will have to make a proper display case for it soon!

Once again, thanks Camkierhi for this, it is frankly awesome!

Well, you do live on the other side of el mundo Almost anyway, Google tells me that you're about 8400km from me, and 11,100km from London. So, that's a bit of a journey.

And very good to see it survived said journey. Cam did a great job on it.

And most stuff, minis terrain always looks better in RL. We work in 3 dimensions and the 2-D photos don't show everything in all its glory. We need a 3D internet.

Some people just keep raising the bar, and there's nothing left to do for the rest of us than to try to cope with that

Plan A is mostly accomplished, plus the shower block add-on; except for some last minute, extra yard detailing.

Yet to decide if leaving it as is, and keeping both parts detachable - and smaller! - or to try to put together a bigger, unifying base, with some more pieces on it as well... The water heater idea didn't sound too bad...

(to be continued decided...)

Cheers.
