Speaking of dungeons (and crawling) - I had the joy of defeating the Hidden Vault this week with my regular Blackstone group. We got through the 8 card approach carrying 4 grievous wounds but still made it through...

More Calth, more testing. Mission I but against mortal saboteurs, there's a nice balance between having lots of bodies and those bodies exploding all the time against marines.

Bit of a letdown of a game for escalation league. Opponent I had yet to face ever(yey), against death guard I had yet to face period(yey) and opponent is planning to start necron so wanted to see them in action. But we got decapitation strike scenario and it's supposed to be played with defenders(me) having twice the army...which throws spanner with escalation league...We should have tried to talk about some idea to even it up(like I bring more units. I didn't have all my necrons with me but 2x12 warriors and 10 lychguard could have come up easily along with another overlord and 2 extra immortals). And for him it would also be anticlimax to halve his points having painted models for this game...or ask for new scenario.

Anyway we went for it and I hoped to survive enough to use my max advance trait and veil to survive but didn't factor in his 2 flying drones and tank all with twin S6 -1 flamers that due to scenario had 9" between them and my DZ so even deploying on center of the bubble meant all got into range on T1. So I had immortals, tomb blades and overlord with game decided on does overlord live or die. First turn immortals bite the dust. I try to delay crawler with tomb blades charging in(lol) but still next round 4d6 flamer shots killed overlord and I was wiped out before even my reinforcements got to play...

Bleh. Rematch with proper scenario talked in 2 weeks.

Really jealous of some of these well painted tables and armies - I'm slowly plugging away, probably have my army finished by 2030.

Anyway, my first game in a long time vs my usual opponent - DA v DG. I used my superior manoeuvrability to chase down and kill off any troops, and left his warlord stranded in order to be picked off too - Had to end at turn 3 as we'd run out of time, but I was up on VP and it was only going one way.

In reality the Blackjack was hit by a truck and an enterprising ninja got to loot the body (good kill bow ninja)

A little Arena Rex action...

Set-up: Lupa, Micon, Nero, and Otho on my end, and Atrox, Marcus Furius, Gaius Pallidus, Hermes, and Antaeus on Gomez Jr.'s side.

The action after a couple rounds of movement and feinting: Atrox has dragged Micon into the backfield, Lupa and Marcus are facing off doing almost nothing, while Otho and Nero have charged forward to engage Antaeus.

Here Antaeus has just used his Hip Toss ability to flip spots with Otho and put him on the very edge of the pit (bad planning on my part). The good news is, Nero pushed Antaeus the next round and then followed up so his base was overlapping both his and Otho's - which allowed me to place Otho on the other side of Nero (who can't be pushed, as he's a Titan, making him safer there) and keep him from insta-death.

Atrox is just about to score two Drags from his damage tree here, allowing him to move to the left side of the pit and pull Micon in. That was the first defeat of the match, and happened before Micon could do much of anything.

Here Nero has just gone Wild during a Clear Turn - and unfortunately he ended up attacking his own teammate Otho rather than the two enemies who were also valid targets (dang dice!). Thankfully he only did a couple damage and ended up moving the action a little further from the pit.

And this is the end-stage of the match: Nero puts Atrox out of his misery, Hermes dispatches Otho, leaving Nero vs. Hermes for the Last Men Standing rules. Nero had his whole second card to put into play still and Hermes's Aegis of Fame ability (which makes his opponent have to burn a Favor dice every turn just to attack him) goes out the window when he's LMS, so the end result was almost inevitable but it was still an enjoyable game (as always). I think the way the game is balanced to almost always end up with 1 vs. 1 LMS is fairly genius - we've never had more than a single fighter alive at the end of a match, and things tend to come down to the action being one attack away from a victory for one side or the other.

Loving the table Insectum - namely the blue coloued lichen. Purchased that way or dyed? I was going to do a similar beige+random colour scrub for a table for my buddy. Also been getting the desire to play 2nd lately. Actually considering an alternating activation + handful of 8th edition rules combined with 2nd for a bizarre concoction.

Agreed, that table is looking very nice. A spot of less ubiquitous colour here and there, while being totally harmonious with the rest of the board, brings the place to life admirably.

Should make a field trip to gather some one of these days :I

Thanks! I finally had to make a board to host games now that I can't regularly make it to the local club. This was my first game on it. I found the lichen in the gardening section of my local hardware store. It's from "Super Moss", specifically called "Reindeer Moss" and comes is a variety of colors, and is pretty cheap.

On Amazon:

My friend used to play 40K but now plays Infiniti. I play current 40K. 2nd Edition sorta meets in the middle between the two systems. Plus, he has a Tyranid army, but never got to experience the 2nd Ed Tyranid shenanigans at the start of the game. My Dreadnought arrived late to the battle, my Captain held a bitter animosity against the Tyranids, and one squad showed up weary and afraid from a long campaign of fighting against them. Good times.

Plus the usual 2nd Ed stuff. The Dreadnought Assault Cannon jammed and the Captain missed with his Stasis Grenade in my 3rd turn. It went downhill from there.

I rolled two jams :(

And only 1 hit against the remaining 4 Genestealers. :( :(

Then in cc, my Dreadnought blew up, taking out the other ones.

I remember the days when vehicles used to detonate spectacularly in close combat (and no, not "mortal wounds" within X").

Best story became what we called the "Overly-Enthusiastic Warlock", who charged into combat with a Sentinel, easily blasted it to pieces with his Witchblade, but the explosion wiped out all the Guardians with him.

Whoops!
