I'm really excited to add the new tau riptide to my army once the new codex is released, but I don't have the money to buy the models at the moment. Can anyone think of any mecha Models I can use to proxy a riptide until I get enough money to buy the actual models?

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.
War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

Hobby link Japan is having a sale that includes some gundam models of about the right scale. cruise their website and pick something you think would look awesome base coated in tau sept ochre.

Mecha_buddha has it right, any Gundam 1/100 model will be right around the supposed 6-8 inch high Riptide. There are definitely some great options that both pull of the heavy look and will sort of work with Tau. I'm thinking about something along the lines of a Tieren Ground Type which Hobbylink Japan is selling for $23.60. A far cry from the $85 dollars GW will be charging for the Riptide.
If you want a good place to browse possible models you might check out the blogs "Gundam Guy" and "Mecha Guy" by searching in google.

1/100 is titan sized, a bit too big.
Here's a 1/100 Zaku II riding a trex to help show it.

I know it seems a little odd but that is about the size of the Riptide if you look at the WD images floating around. In one image the Riptide can be seen next to a few Crisis Suits and the suit barely comes up to the things knee. I know 1/144 feels safer but from what I can tell we really are looking at a 6-8 inch tall model. Soon as we get the kit we will be able to really figure out what kind of kitbash we can make.

Many if not most Mecha models are 12-15cm high and should work sizewise.
In the Gundam Universe, search for the Bandai "High Grade" series (1/144 scale). Here a list:
