I'm getting ready to do up Arjac Rockfist and it got me wondering: With special characters, how often do people stick with the GW schemes from packaging or novels, and how often do you paint them differently, how you imagine them? GW's Arjac doesn't give much room for veering off, though my SW are actually grey and a bit darker. I'd still like to put my own twist on him.

Also, I'd like to give him a cloak but not really sure how to go about it. I'll be using GW's model for him rather than a conversion of my own.

I love giving my special characters something...well...special! A variant paint job would certainly fit the bill. If you want to do something different, I say go for it. Especially if you think you can pull off the look. You can search the tutorials section and find half a dozen posts about how to make cloaks from greenstuff, which would look pretty sweet.

+1 !
You should try and have a common small touch on all your guys. If you're a tradditionnal SW player, you can always have a common trim, or spauldron, or just invert the colours, making f.e. a yellow wharacter with grey trim if you main colour is grey with yellow trim.

On my CSM, I always have a bone colour somewhere, but the other colours varies greatly (see galery).

My regular guys are pretty easy to make interesting, they all have facial tattoos. Given the fact that Arjac isn't part of my Great Company, I'm not sure what to do.
