OK, I was debating on doing an army based off of an artillery battery of the USMC. That's 6 howitzers, roughly 9 men to each piece, trucks for each gun, then, a command squad with it's own truck, and fire direction center, with other necessities of an additional security section including heavy weapons. Nothing so far as mortars or rocket launchers. Roughly pricing out the 6 howitzers is $600. Also, though I am looking at modifying each howitzer so that it is towed form the muzzle break of each gun. On top of this I need to find trucks of decent scale to act as the prime movers for each howitzer. The size of one of these sort of Batteries is around 90 men, plus the weapons platoon of guys and motor transportation.

I was wondering if anyone had any advise on how to start this project in full. It will probably be a piece mail process of completing it. I'm going for some realism here in doing this project.

Somewhere in south-central England.

If I understand your idea in full, you intend to build six howitzer models, tractors, all the gun crew, and a certain number of other troops and vehicles for command, security, etc.

Are you planning to do this with GW models? I should think it could be done more simply and cheaply with 1/48 or 1/35 scale models.

It may sound silly but you should start by listing all of the vehicles and troops you will need, and find out the points costs if it is going to be modelled on an official codex.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
