Hi all,
I've gotten a bunch of grey knight terminators, so what should I do with 'em to make a viable army? This is what I was thinking:

HQ

Grand Master: psy-cannon, melta bombs, hood, incense (-1 I for all chaos models)

Retinue: 8 Grey Knight terminators

ELITES

8 GKT: 2 psy-cannons, BC, melta bombs, psy-cannon, thunder hammer (only the BC)

8 GKT: 2 psy-cannons, BC, melta bombs, psy-cannon, thunder hammer (only the BC)

TROOPS

10 =I= Storm Troopers: rhino, smoke, EA, vet sgt, homer, thunder hammer, pistol

10 =I= Storm Troopers: rhino, smoke, EA, vet sgt, homer, thunder hammer, pistol

That comes out to 1900, so I need to drop 50 points, and the only places that I see that happening are in the storm troopers. They really are the weakest link in this army, but I need troops. I tried to make them useful, but I think that I just made them expensive. Though, homers are quite useful. The other options that I have are:

1) Drop the thunder hammers and make the ST 6 men strong, adding 2 meltas.

2) Drop everything on the ST, so that they are 5 man (50 point) give aways for the opponent and claim a quarter at the end if I'm lucky and the opposition forgets about them.

3) Drop the ST entirely and possibly the psy cannons and add 2-3 squads of 6 regular GKs, packing psy cannons.

In all of these cases, skimmers are going to give me a hard time, as the only anti-tank stuff that I have is melta bombs (and possibly 4 melta guns). But I imagine that that's the nature of the beast. Another option is to go totally gung-ho and buy a giant command squad, put 'em in a crusader and get a thunderhawk (not the actual model) to put 'em on the table, but that's forgeworld, and thus questionable no?

Another concern that I had was the small number of larger squads and, consequently, fewer cannons, which are a beautiful thing (come here you amoral little Ulthwe punks!). While I spend less on BCs, I loose out in terms of shooting power. Ideas?

Have any sisters of battle? If so, you could limit yourself to one command squad and one elite squad of GKTs and ally them to a sisters force. Then you get rock solid sisters for your troops selections. Much better than STs IMO. With the points you save on the third GKT squad, you can take a Jumpy Cannoness of Death (tm) and a couple Exorcists.

But if you want to keep to the DH book, I'd drop the hammers on the STs and buy meltas. Try and find enough points to upgrade to Chimeras to not only deliver the meltas and homers, but to also serve as gun boats w/ 6 S5+ shots per turn each.

5 units for 1850 seems like scoring might be an issue.

With so few troops, you would have some hard decisions to make. I've been playing against Guard a lot lately and I'm learning to hate leman russes tucked into table corners.

Sorry for the random comments, I don't know that Codex well-enough yet.

My 1850 List is:


HQ:
Grand master w/ psycannon, hamerhand Grim of True Names
    6 termies
    1 Termie with psycannon



Elites:
Brother captian w/ psycannon, Sacred incense
    6 termies
    1 termie with psy cannon
    Holocost

Troops:
1 Justicar w/ Meltabombs
GK troopers w/ 2 psycanons

Troops:
1 justicar w meltabombs
    7 Gk troopers w/ 2 psycannons

Fast attack:
1 Justicar w/ melta bombs
    7 GK troopers w/ 2 psycannons

16 termies
10 Psyccannons
1 force weapon
30 Storm bolters
18 Str 6 power weapons

40 total models

I win significantly more than I lose even against AV 14 critters.

Also Remember  Termies can't have melta bombs. Also why waste points on a hood? you already get a test every time some one uses a psy power.

Yeah, I definitely would lose the thunder hammer on the IST's, drop the numbers down to 6. Get them some meltas or plasma.
