Austin over at B4H(https://www.facebook.com/Brush4HireMiniatures) was kind enough to snag some quality photos of the Commander R'Alai I painted the last time I was at his place.

I hope everyone likes the photos, spent a good chunk of time working on this fellow.

That is so well painted! Love the blue tint on the shield and the lighter edging you have used around the dark brown, looks amazing! How long did this take you?

Reasonable guess, probably around 20 hours. This was pre-airbrush as well. Now that I have one at my disposal the base coating and OSL should be a little easier in the future. Also, in person he looks great, in the photos he looks great, but in the photos there are several imperfections that I can see in my own work that are otherwise not really noticeable in person.

Thanks, I've had some people like as well as dislike the OSL, I feel like OSL is one of those things though, people either like OSL in general or they don't. I am glad you like it

Takes some practice and patience but I am far from perfect, still trying to get better. All I can say though is that you 'can' paint like this Just snag some tutorials/YouTube vids and keep trying. I own 30 tactical marines right now, 20 of them replaced my original 20 because I had improved so much that it was time to paint better stuff. Keep on trying!

Looks great. I loved painting this model. I wish GW had new suits that used this aesthetic.

Disappointing that these are not in the new codex.

The only improvements I can suggest would be in the brown areas keep the darker brown slightly less wonky, only slightly. Also tone down the light blue a bit on the shield maby localise it to the grooves.

All of the OSL was done by hand with a brush, no airbrush at the time, so it wasn't perfect but that was the best I could do given the resources I had. Otherwise I do agree with you

I like, but the base looks a little too plain for me. Even just a stray gun or something on the ground will break it up a bit.

Those effects are amazing. A lot of people using lightning/OSL and such will put those effects over black or something flat. I think it looks great over the regular armor color. Good work!

Quality paint job on a cool model. The sharp highlights suit that model, and the way you've painted the energy makes it look like barely-contained power.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

I love it but the only thing I could think of that would make it better would be the edging (highlights). Even with the OSL they seem a bit thick.

Other than that this model is SPECTACULAR!
