I've got an IG Battle Force that will eventually be an Ultramar PDF. How do you guys deal with the mounting tabs on the backs? I'm thinking clip and file, but any other techniques for removal would be nice to hear. Thanks.

Inboud...

Most people just leave them. You could mount some backpacks if they offend you though.
Otherwise, as you said, clip and file.

Best of luck with the project, post some pics on how it goes.

Honestly, a sharp razor knife should take care of these and take less than 30 seconds per model. I would suggest shaving them off before assembling the models so your knife can maneuver better. Just be careful!

That's a first for me as well. Most people leave them given the work and time needed to remove them all.
I'd also suggest covering instead of removing. Either way, best of luck!

I thought about leaving them, but I'm just OCD enough that it would bother me, lol. I guess I figured a lot of others were, too. I can't see it adding a lot of time, so I think I'm going to remove them. The bigger problem is coming up with a color scheme. Been wracking my brain for months with nothing. I want to have continuity with UMs. One part of me wants to be realistic and paint them in sensible military colors with an Ultra style "U" on one shoulder pad. The other part of me wants to incorporate Ultramarines Blue into their uniforms, not a very sensible military color.

Could go with a single blue armor plate/shoulder pad and then with gray or urban camo for the uniforms. That would help them conform and still seem like a sensible military.

But it's not like the armies of the Imperium are sensible about most of their color selections (Imperial Fists, UM, BA, Inquistion).
