Never got into warmachine/hordes, but since black library doesn't want my money (they want limited edition novella e book hardback buyer money). This might be the stepping stone I needed.

Thanks for the heads up.

lol, there's one thing those covers have other than glowy circles and lines... I think PP's really aiming for highbrow on this

On the other hand, really glad they didn't use uderzo (sp?) on this cover art... can't stand that stuff. And, fun (and a bit surprising) to see a lot of merc stuff there

What does that even mean? They release regular paperbacks every month.

If I had to guess, he's complaining because of the fact that they've been releasing limited edition novellas more regularly now especially in the context of the Horus Heresy series.
Very few of them are actually "necessary" reads to continue to understand the storyline, but you know how it goes...

It's interesting that "The Devil's Pay" is said to be a prelude to "Dark Convergence".

I picked up the CL Werner penned book. Well see how it is. 150 pages, so pretty fairly priced at $5.

I think skull island expeditions is a simply horrible name for their publishing arm. Just awful. Especially since the X in expeditions is capitalized. Terrible. Gotta be something better from the Warmahordes universe they could have used.

Are those campaign books or novels?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

So "Skull Island Xpeditions" is basically Privateer Press's version of "Black Library"?

And they've jumped straight to the enovellas.

I eagerly await ADB's limited edition hardback. All 110 pages of it.

Privateer fluff has always been second-tier in my mind. Perhaps this is their attempt to fix that? I'm not necessarily going to go out and buy, but this definitely seems like something of potential interest.

AFAIK the novellas released in Skull Island eXpeditions are only going to be released in ebook format, there will be no paper version of these.

PP is planing on releasing paper novels but they will do so under another brand then the Skull Island eXpeditions (and hopefully will have more than 150 pages).

Anyway, I might pick up a couple of these to see how they fare. 5$ seems pretty well priced for what you get.

I read The Devil's Pay. It was alright. Pretty much the pulp action story you would expect from the setting. The characters were pretty one-dimensional, but there's only so much room for development in a novella. If you are looking for something to read to kill an hour or so, you could find worse things to spend five bucks on. I'll probably try the Makeda novella next, since I've read Larry Correia's stuff before and have enjoyed it. Just don't read the guy's blog unless you are a hardcore libertarian or it'll make your head explode.

Get an ePub version. Easiest to use on the iOS format, and it's easy for all the online sites to convert.

.mobi is going to be the Kindle specific format.

I can't fathom why anyone would buy them in .PDF.

Honestly, they should give you all three with your purchse.

And I still think Skull Island eXpeditions is just an awful, awful publishing house name.

Yes, I have. I have a very firm stance on this

Does nook not run epub?

If you actually read the press release and recent Insiders, you'd know that it's not named after something in universe because they plan on releasing non-WM/H/IK books in the future.

It's available through Amazon as well. All though I've heard UK Amazon will lag a bit behind (A couple weeks) in opening up for sale.

For my Nook, I bought and downloaded it through the computer, then connected the Nook and dropped the file in the Digital Editions folder. Works just fine.

To be fair, I'd have to anyway, I don't own the newer wifi versions.

+1

I've always enjoyed the 40k fluff but with the way they are headed (Corax: SoulForge), I'm quickly losing interest in paying their prices.

On topic.... it's good to see PP releasing some more fluff related items and I look forward to more.

Maybe it's a cultural thing. In my culture, it is impolite not to warn a company that their publishing arm's name is so bad that it will cost them sales to all but the most devoted fans. A casual reader who sees the name and isn't under 12 years old, will think "This doesn't look like something I'd want to read," no matter how much of a steampunk, brass gear, pew pew-loving manchild he is.

Trust me, I know.

Honestly, though, the part that confuses me the most is how that name could possibly have been accepted by a committee. I would expect "Team Strike Force Publishing" to be more acceptable than something that actively encourages customers to link ableist slurs to the company.

Really?

So, they chose an incredibly awkward, off-putting, sales-losing name and it doesn't even have anything to do with their flagship product? Really?

Is it actually a reference to their deep desire to have Rob Liefeld write a King Kong comic?
