The Hammer of Witches

A new day, a new time zone.

After a recent game, I found out that there were a couple things I was doing wrong with my Monolith, so I went back to try went through the Codex entry line by line to make sure I had everything right this time. When I hit the entry for the Gauss Flux Arc, I encountered a problem. The entry states that they will "fire D6 shots at every unit with a model within 12 inches."

Now, as I used it, I checked a 12" radius circle around the Monolith
(and measured from the center of the model instead of the hull, but considering my oops with the Particle Whip, I think it was a fair handicap), and then for every eligible unit, I rolled a D6. So, this way, I got five hits on a termie squad, four on some scouts, and three on a Death Company. Is that the right way to do it?

Or, 2: do I roll 1d6, and then apply the results to every squad within range. I.E it would've been five hits on the termies, scouts, and death company?

Or, 3: do I roll 1d6, and the divide the results up amongst all available units? I.E. with that 5, I could do three hits on the termies, one on the scouts, one on the DC.

Also, just to be sure I have this right, since the Particle Whip is ordnance, I can either fire it, or the Gauss Flux, but never both, right?

Well to start with the easy question, no you cannot fire the Flux Arc and the Particle Whip on the same turn. I do think it is stated in the Codex somewhere.

Now, I always take it as I check all units within 12"(I measure from the hull as that is where the guns are but I could be wrong) and roll a D6 for each seprate unit, just like you do.

I think by the nature of the weapon(multiple guns firing at all angles) it is the most logical choice.

Yep. Measure from the base of the 'lith 12" and roll 1d6 for each unit in range and LOS.

Now wait, measure from the base or from the center of the model? I think I usually use the base edge fot he model, not the center...

A new day, a new time zone.

You measure from the base of the Monolith. I measured from the center because that gave me a fixed point to spin my tape measure around to find out the radius of the firing circle, forgetting that I was loosing distance in the process.

You always measure from the hull of the vehical when checking range for shooting. LOS is determined from the weapon mount however.

Also the Flux arc requires you to roll to hit. You don't just get auto hits on all units within 12" and within LOS

I don't think the question has been answered properly. It may be a situation where the wording is too ambiguous to have a definitive answer.

Double-bugger.  I thought the Monolith was carving through those Marines _way_ to easy... Boy is my face going to be red if I play the same guy again, and he asks why it's gotten so much weaker since the last time we played...

Unless said vehicle (such as a dreadnought) has a base.  Then you measure from the base.
