Alrighty - I've run into this issue a few times so far.

How are IC/Characters counted as far as scoring or capturing objectives?

As a Necron player I can assign my Royal Court members (all characters) with one per squad - does this character count as it's own VP or does it "meld" with the squad for all intents and purposes? What happens if the entire squad is shot down and only the character stands back up - now he is alone. Does the enemy get the point for the squad being destroyed or does that character now count as the last member of the squad?

Similar question with IC's - how do they count as far as VP? For reserve purposes I've heard they are always counted as their own unit. If you destroy the squad attached to an IC but not the IC - do you get points for the squad being destroyed? Do you then get additional points for the IC itself?

And lastly while on the question of scoring - if I destroy a Bastion - do I get a VP for its destruction in a VP game? How about the Quad gun on top of it?

Once assigned to a unit, a Cryptek/Lord is a normal member of that unit for everything with the exception of RP rolls. This means is you have a Cryptek attached to a unit of Warriors and the Warriors are wiped out (leaving the Cryptek), no VPs are earned and the Cryptek is still scoring. Once the Cryptek goes down then the unit is destroyed.

IC's count as their own unit for VP purposes. If they are joined to a unit and the unit or IC is destroyed your opponent gets a VP.

No, Fortifications are not enemy models. They are terrain that your opponent pays for.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Thanks. Cleared that up pretty quick.

One last...

So the Bastion itself counts as a fortification - but does the Quad Gun (not the crew) count as a unit or just part of the Bastion?

Gun Emplacements are terrain. THey are not a unit.

This would have been 5th edition. They've added into the IC rules:

"If an Independent Character joins a unit, and all other models in that unit are killed, he again becomes a unit of one model at the start of the following phase" page 39, BRB, IC, 5th paragraph down on the left.

It happens just like you say except at the start of the next phase instead of when the IC dies. They are not longer in that broken state of eternally being part of a unit they cannot leave.

Independent Character rules don't apply to models that aren't Independent Characters. Like the aforementioned Cryptek/Lord. They have their own rules for how they are joined to units.

Characters are not Independent Characters.

My mistake, thought they were an IC. Nevermind then.
