I was kind of wondering if some of the Chaos armies load some of their troops out to other warbands and chapters. Like the Wordbearers. Do they attach their Dark Apostles to other armies to "spread the good word" or do anything like that?

Going as far back as RoC, mortal Champions can receive, as a gift from the Ruinous Powers, the service of others of their servants, including daemons, lesser champions, mutants, and Chaos Space Marines.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

Abbadon also shifts troops around. He will take your marines if he needs more bodies to reach a goal, sometimes taking entire chapters.

It's more like join forces than lending troops to other warlords. Single Chaos Lords are far more autonomous so if the promise for skulls, loot or sacrifices is good enough the Lord tries to negotiate with the mightier Lord if they think they work together and would not be able to accomplish their goals alone.
Even the officers of the more centralized Chaos forces (i.e. Abbadons Black Legion, the Word Bearers and the Red Corsairs) would be allowed to make such decisions on their own but would still have to account to their superiors and would instantly leave the pact if they would be ordered to most of the time.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too! |

Does Huron Blackheart feature heavily in the Iron Warriors omnibus? If so, I need to pick that up.
Chaos Lords are always on the look out for power and more options to reach their goals. They'd be more than willing to join forces to reach greatness. Obviously the big dogs are going to hold more sway and will be able to acquire more troops for less in return, but the minor less known Lords still hold power that can be recognized by other lords.

I would guess there's a lot of hiring out that happens. A minor chaos lord may sell the services of his band to another to get more troops and supplies to build his power base up.

I believe the story is "The Skull Harvest", which was in Heroes of the Space Marines, its a pretty good read! Even without knowing anything about Honsou, the main character.

I'm definitely gonna pick that up then. I'm on a bit of a Huron tear right now.

Huron barely makes an appearance in it to be honest, its more a case that he runs a huge tournament in order to decide who gets the troops. He gets a few mentions and a brief cameo, but he's not exactly a featured character

If you're looking for books with Huron Blackheart check out The Gildar Rift and Treacheries of the space marines. The former is about the Red Corsairs trying to corrupt a loyal chapter and the later has a pretty good short story about him.
