The new Tau codex changes the commander entry to 1+.  In Commander Shadowsun's entry, it specifically mentions that she counts as the required commander.  In Commander Farsight's entry, it says no such thing.  So that means an O'Shovah army HAS to take a second crisis suit commander.

Strange, isn't it?

Could it be a mistake by the editors? No way, as there aren't any editors.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

In my codex it says that Crisis Battle Suits are 1+ it does not say anything about commanders being 1+.

Edit: I believe the unique nature of the breakaway faction requires you to take him plus another commander.

Yup, looks to me like you still need the Commander... which makes sense with the Battlesuit-heavy nature of the faction.

I could be wrong, but I think the reason why they make that comment about Shadowsun is beacause she isn't in a Crisis suit. I know that the 1+ Commander rule, by RAW, has nothing do to with Crisis suits, but generally, the perception is that the Tau army is always led by a Commander in a Crisis suit, so having a character NOT in a Crisis suit act as the 1+ Commander could be confusing (as opposed to, say, O'Shovah, who is clearly a Crisis Suit Commander.)

Again, what I'm saying isn't backed up by RAW at all, just a theory as to why they make that comment in Shadowsun's entry. Good gaming!

Well as it is, you do have to take the commander, however I'm under the belief that this will be fixed in a FAQ...hopefully.
