Well hello there everyone !

Today I decided it was about time i got my blog up for my highlander guard army that I am creating. I am basing them off the Napolenic Highland infantry as I find their aestheticis very appealing, but I will be trying to incorporate the style of the Imperial Guard into them so they are not just copies of the infantry I am using for inspiration.

For those that do not know what a Highlander Line infantryman looked like here is a lovely picture of one.

Progress will be slow to start off with as I am currently in the final stages of my university course so that has to take priority but I hope to get some minor updates every few nights in the free time that I do have

So firstly is my list

Spoiler:
Company command
4 plasma
Chimera

Shotgun
3 meltas

3 Plasma guns -Need 10 kilts and 10 backpacks

Vendetta -Need

Rough riders
+ 5 men
Mogul Kahmir
2 Meltas

LR exterminator
HB sponsons
lascannon

2 x Medusa -Need one Basilisk and Basilisk Gun and mount.
1 x Breacher shells

So of that list I have everything bar 2 Chimeras and Basilisk a set of 10 Kilted legs and backpacks, aAll the other parts are inbound from Victoria Miniatures which is where I got most of my conversion parts from.

I am also considering doing a Death korps Engineer ally detatchment for some breacher Drill goodness so stay in tuned for that too.

Onto the pictures !
I have recently finished 7 men of my first veteran Squad but some require a bit of modelling work as some of their plumes have snapped off at the side of their helmets.

First up is a Squad photo, showing the burly chaps together ! These were fresh off the basing line too !

I shall be working on the final 3 melta wielding maniacs soon with any luck
If you want some different pictures don't hesitate to ask

Since I am basing my army off the Napolenic era (Kind of) I really wanted to do some RoughRriders in the style of the British 15th Hussars because heck they'd just look awesome,
I completed the mdoelling work on these quite some time ago, but I want to get the other 5 men finished before I start to paint them up.
First up is my Mogul Khamir stood next to his best friend Seargent MacKay.

And up next is... I dont know... Geoff The Rough Rider.

And finally I have a few snap shots of the army that is in need of converting up to Highlander Status, though I do pose this question to you !
How on earth am I going to convert these metal special weapon gaurdsmen into kilt wearing hard nuts ?

And in these 2 bags we have the final 3 Veteran Squads sitting in storage along with the armour I currently possess, I do need a new Basilisk Gun and the supporty bits that hold it up so if you have one please get in touch

Well that is all for now, I hope you guys like what youhave seen so far and are as excited as I am to see this army finished !

Until next time,
Wolf

Well it was my first shift back at work tonight after 2 weeks off and it sucked.

But I got a pleasent surprise on my return as I found these waiting for me in my letter box !

In there is enough legs for 2 squads as well as backpacks and the 5 legs for the final 5 (Battlestar Galactica Reference) Rough riders.

So I can get to work on constructing the rest of my force woohoo !

Stay tuned.

Cut the metal guys just below the waist and put them on kilted legs, or greenstuff kilts on them. Judging george your GS skills will be up to parr for that.

Yeah I'd agree it seems GS will be the best way to go for the kilts, I think cutting them might be too much work and risk damaging the model.

Anyways I have been surprisingly productive and got the final five rough riders to a stage where they are waiting for their coats and furry hats.

I kinda like the "Chef" look to the mat the moment, beware the chef cavalry, they'll cut you up and turn you into stew.

Anywho after all my modelling was done I got the great pleasure of using my micro hover to clean up

This thing is the best invention ever, until you suck up something you weren't supposed to then it's a bit of a pain

So that was an update on where I am at now, I may play a dissapearing act as it's the final 3 weeks of my degree and I have lots to do !

So stay tuned, also comments, ideas, critiques are always welcomed

Cheers

I'm back, and am very glad to see you guys are enjoying the models

I managed to slip in some modelling tonight after my day of working on University stuff.(for those interested this is my blog of my university work.

I got the Plasma gun squad ready to recieve their dose of greenstuff which I plan on starting tomorrow after my hard days grafting.

Picture time.

The family photo.

The man in charge

(I just noticed that I need to remove the skull and wings from the helmets so i'll do that before I start to add GS)

There we go, now as I was uploading these I was thinking for when i come to paint this squad should I give them a different tartan on their kilts?
You know make each infantry squad a different clan and have their own tartan, does that sound like a cool idea ? Would like to know what you think

Anyways it's bed time for old Wolfy
So until my next update
Bye for now.

Well tonight I managed to get some GS work done on the guys that needed it.

I've got 3 of the Rough rider hats sorted and waiting their umm flaps ?

On the infantry I have started their fur and set up the GS base for the kilts on the plasma gunners.

And I also fixed the guardsmen that needed their plumes fixing. I tried to apply some liquid matte varnish to one of the bases, and yeah it didn't turn out well so I will have to re apply that and use the spray varnish back home.

And that's all folks.

Just want thoughts on painting each squad's kilts different to represent different clans ?

Up next will be more GS work.
That's all for now.

Hello again everyone,

Sorry for the long time between updates, so much uni work and so little time !

Anyway I have managed to get some more GS work done on the infantry and Rough riders and have completed them except for the plumes on the infantry and the cloth parts on the Rough rider helmets.
So here is what they look like at the moment.

I also had a chance to work on my Leman Russ Exterminator which is still a WIP so do excuse some of the modelling problems you can see with it, I had to do some serious hack and slashing to get the tracks in a better conditions, as well as most of the other parts.

On the turret I added some feathers from the Empire Outrider kits, that I used for my rough riders, which will be painted in a similar fashion to the plumes on the infatnry to try and link the army together, I am contemplating adding some cloth on the tank to paint with a tartan but I'm not sure where I should put them if I do. Any ideas on that ?
And here it is !

I also managed to get my Dkok allies started and here they are in all their wonderfullnes...

I also got my hands on the ForgeWorld open day Quarter Master model which I got as soon as I saw it, It's a fantastic model !

And I also have a commissar that I have had for al ong time and have stripped,

When I got the models one of the mole launcher crew was damaged and so I used this model to do a test scheme for my Krieg Allies,

At the moment I am undecided If I like this scheme, I'm thinking of trying of a more earthy colouration, though I am wanting them to be linked to my Highlander army somehow but not sure how I wll go about that, any ideas on that guys ?

And finally I have torn apart my broken Basilisk and will begin working on converting that to a German inspired tank destroyer using the flak 88 gun I have there.

So that was a big update,
To recap on the questions I put out to you guys are,
Where is the best place to put the cloth on the Leman Russ ?
And how can I link my Dkok allies with my HIghlanders through their uniforms or modelling ?

And that's all for now folks,
Thanks for reading and please C&C is wlecomed

Guess who is back !

Man that was one long break from this project, I think life just threw everything at me alllll at once !

I was moving back home from uni which meant boxes and boxes of stuff and took me a hell of a long time to unpack all that crap.

I am currently working 7 days a week still 5 days in a games studio i have helped to set up and the other 3 days in the local supermarket, oh joyous !

So now the time has finally come and I have managed to squeeze in my modelling and painting again and boy does it feel good !

I have got a few bits and bobs done over the last few days while I was getting my mojo back which I will upload photos of tonight, for now though here is a shot of my new work station, internet points for the one who can guess what I am watching on my tablet !

Stay tuned folks !

So as promised I have some pictures of the progress I have made over the last few days.

Whilst I was away in Cornwall last summer I found some time to do some painting and managed to get this guy done for the second squad, I created a new tartan that stood out from the red uniform and hopefully makes the squad look different to the last. I then used this model as a template for the rest of the squad

I also thought I would show a close up of his Kilt to show a little more detail on it, I started with Vallejo's Grey green as a base colour, then went for scab red lines followed by a black outline and then filling in the boxes with Flat red to make the patter stand out.

Squad 2 is almost complete, I just need to add a few washes to them, and add some finishing touches onto certain parts of the model.
Here is a group shot of the boys that are WIP

All that is left for this squad is the sergeant that needs a sash modelling onto him (I kind of forgot about it to be honest) and the three Plasma Gun guys.

For the plasma gun holders I Green stuffed some kilts onto them but I am unsure if I like them or not, what do you guys think ?

Now onto Mogul Khamir ! I also painted him on my holiday in Cornwall to test the colour scheme I had in mind for my Rough Riders, I chose the blue for the uniform as it was used on a few British Cavalry regiments of the Napoleonic wars and I wanted to get that look into my Rough Riders.

I think the colour choices have worked out really well for him and I think the squad as a whole, once painted, will look really good and have a striking look on the board !
And here is the remaining 9 members that are waiting to charge into the painting line !

Once they are painted I will adjust their bases to have the Circular 40k edges to them and get the flock on them.

So up next I plan on either painting the Plasma gunners or reworking their Kilts and getting the sergeant his sash and painted up too.
I also plan on having the rest of the squad finished up and based too !

Well that's all folks !
C&C is always welcome

Greetings one and all,

Over the last few days I managed to make some more progress I got the painted guys from squad 2 bases and rebased the chaps from squad 1 too and here they are below.

So when they were finished and feeling in a basey mood I decided to modify the cavelry bases to the 40k universe, I just sawed normal infantry bases in half then greenstuffed them onto the ends of the cavelry bases. It's not a perfect fit but it's functional which is the main thing, I also think you won't be able to tell once they are based properly.

Having some greenstuff left over after this I realised I still needed to give the sargent his sash, I also went in and hacked the previous Greenstuff kilts down so that I can re attempt a better sculpt of them which will be started tonight.

When I went to get my 1st squad from my display cabinet I found some old projects that I needed to either finish or revisit, the first one was my Flowr Knight model which has been waiting to be based suitabley for a long time, so i finally bit the bullet and based her and boy what a difference it made to the model. This is still by far one of my favourite models I have ever painted !

I aslo stumbled across my old converted Kroot Shaman who if i remember correctly was called Sthooka, i had some help from some Dakka members in making up some custom rules for him. I decided he deserved a repaint so off with his old paint and he is now primed and ready to go so check back for further details on him

So I think I managed to get a bit done over the last few days, so what is to come ?
As mentioned before I will be sculpting the new kilts and once they are dried and ready I will paint them up and that will be squad 2 finished
Next I think will be the rough riders, get them all painted and ready for action, and inbetween when I feel like I need ot take a braek I will do some paintwork on my Shaman.

Thanks for tuning in again guys and please any comments, critisisms, or ideas to make my army better feel free to shoot !
Cheers

And I am back !

After a busy few weeks I finally got chacne to take some progress shots of my work done so far. Not a lot of progress really but hey it feels good to be back at the cramped workstation again

Nothing like a cup of tea in my OMG cup and the wonderful noise of Sharpe in the background to start getting back into painting again

So the Rough riders are almost complete, 3 more horses and their riders remain to be painted. All that will need to be done once they are all painted is for them to be based and spray varnished ! I have to say I am really pleased with them, I feel they really come together as a group and hoipefully look rather imposing too.

What do you guys think of the finished chaps so far ?

I wanted to show a the different colours of the horses too, I wanted variation in their colours to make them more interesting. I was worried that they would be tricky to paint right but these horses are actually suprisingly easy to paint as long as I have some reference infront of me when I choose a paticular colouring, it's not so bad in the end.

So as the new release of the Guard codex looms ever closer I decided that I wouldn't make anymore troops up after I painted my Rough Riders as I need to know how my army will shape up with the new codex rules. I know atleast I have to get 2 standard guardsmen made again for the two veteran squads that I have done since rumours say I will be loosing a single special weapon. It's not too hard of a job really Just have to remember how I did the kilts
Now then onto the Ships of Space.

I have a larg-ish Imperial Fleet that has remained constructed but unpainted for a while and I felt while I waited for the new IG codex to be released, I thought it would be a good idea to get painting them again So I started work on my Retribution class Battleship. I used the hull of an Apocalypse class Battleship, and parts of the Space Marine Battlebarge to make this ship.

I have yet to name this beauty, any ideas on good names I could use ? I've already called one ship Dauntless which you shall see below

And here is the Dauntless! It was painted but I decided that I wanted to give her a better paintjob and do the ship justice, so it's just primed and read to go once I have made significant progress on the Retribution class.

Also a little side project too, the great Commissar Yarrick !
The photo isn't really great but once he is finished I intend on getting better photos of him

So that's all folks

Thanks for looking and please any comments on my work so far please dont be afraid to speak up

Cheers

Ahh I have been silent these past few weeks, wow the last update was the 8th ! I have been slacking it seems.

Anywho I have managed to get a bit done

First up is the finished BFG Apocalypse Battleship !

Over all I am pleased with how the ship turned out, though now I want to go back and repaint the entire fleet to bring it up to a similar standard as this fine ship.
All that needs doing now is finishing up its base, below is an example of how it will look

The base shows the ships Symbol and name, along with the rank markings of its Commander/Admiral.

The Rough Riders got there final loving with their bases been completed and an added spray of varnish ! Here they all are together. I am super duper happy with how they look as a unit with their bases complete Possibly one of my favourite units to have converted and painted

Today I have been free from the shackles of work and I spent my time painting up one of my all time favourite models, the Forgeworld event DKOK Quartermaster. When I slapped eyes on that chappy I had to have him.
I spent a good 3-4 hours painting him as I wanted him to shine in the Kill team that he will be leading.

So up next I will be painting his Engineer Counterparts and possibly begin on modelling some more Guardsmen.
I have some Lizardmen plans in the works too so stay tuned for that update

Again C&C is always welcome and encouraged as I always want to better my painting.

All the best and a happy Easter to all !

Hello one and all it's a bank holidaaay speciaaaaaal !

I have returned and I have been a busy bee I can tell you.
For the time been my Highland guard are on hold while I figure out what I want to do with my over all army list.

So with that in minedI moved onto other projects that I wanted to get done.

Remember that Kroot chap I showed earlier on, well I decided I wanted to make a Tau Kill Team using Kroot for counts as firwarriors and the like.

So for the Kroot in question he is a counts as Battlesuit with 2 plasma rifles which are represented by his two accompanying Drones.

He controls the drones from the small control panel that he constructed, the drones are still WIP

Here is a detail shot of the back of his throne.

Up next are the counts as Firewarriors. The tricky part with the Kill team was trying to make the Fire Warriors and Kroot look different from one another when they were all made of Kroot.

So for the Fire Warriors I thought to my self the 30 inch range meant the Kroot guns should have a scope ontop, they would also need a Tau Antenae to make them even more accurate at such a long range. Next I added the standard Tau Shoulder pad which helped define them as a Fire Warrior, and here are the results !

Next up was the Kroot themselves, this was real tricky as I had no real idea of how I could make them look different and be obviously different... I rummaged through my bits drawers and found some old deamon of Khorne heads which gave me an idea !
Each Kroot has it's own hound which have matching blue war paint.

This Next Kroot Is known as the Scribe, he has an unusual attraction to partchments or books and scrolls with scribbles on !

All I am waiting for now is my second hand Broadside to arrive, and that will then complete my Kill team !

I have also been working on the Dkok kill team, still al ot of work to be done but I think they will look great once finished !

I have also dug up my Napoleonic miniatures to try and get some paitning done on them, just to break up the paitning a little.
The following are the 33rd foot Yorkshire Regiment of the British army

Well then that was a biiiiiig update !
I hope you enjoy and I shall see you next time.

Wolf
