Hello!

Though I don't play Chaos Space Marines, when the Heldrake was released I thought it looked promising, but unfinished. In particular, it looked like it was too wide and too short to be effective as a flyer. Furthermore, it really didn't look like it could perform an effective vector strike with the stumpy little legs GW tacked on. What was needed was a strong back end, with powerful legs that looked like they could rip a flyer to shreds as it flew past.

Thankfully, GW released the Forgefiend. With a little modification, the large front legs of the Forgefiend and the joint protectors seemed just the thing to add. But what would be the best dragon body? I did a web search for other ideas people had come up with, and the clear winner was definitely the new Zombie Dragon. In fact, the back half of the zombie dragon fit so well, it almost seemed like GW intended for it to be used with the Heldrake.

Anyway, here is the WIP of the Heldrake I am working on. I left the wings off because I will be painting them separately, then adding them on later. I'll try to update this thing once I'm done, so you can see what the model looks like completed. I'll be painting it in Black Legion colors, because they seem to be the most commonly used Chaos armies, and black and gold looks spectacular together. Oh, and let me apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures. I'm using my Droid Razor's phone camera, as my cats recently decided to destroy my Canon Digital Rebel, leaving me with no other option.
