I'm surprised this hasn't popped up yet here, as the design and prototype minis for this boardgame look outstanding.

I've been
following the game over at boardgamegeek.com, and from what we know so far [cut 'n' paste]:
this game is at its core is a quest-chasing, monster-killing, deck-building adventure game with miniatures, and with
PvP as well. It appears to have card-deck hand management akin to such games as Mage Knight, Magic the Gathering and Dominion. The core mechanics include skill checks by rolling
d6s akin to what's done in games like Arkham Horror, Axis and Allies miniatures etc. And the basic premise of adventuring appears at least somewhat similar to games like Runebound, Heroquest, and also Mage Knight. And while comparison to the above games should be helpful to some degree, I've not yet played the game and am only repeating what I've read online, and learned from the various comments and videos (in case you haven't put it together yet... I've been following the game avidly!).
For you video watchers,
there are examples of gameplay here.
The retail boardgame comes with six ship minis, one captain per ship, and lots of cardboard counters. The kickstarter version includes:
- An extra faction ship
- A
mini for the Aeropolis (big floating city where lots of action takes place, apparently)
- A
mini for the Kobolos (big bad dragon dude)
- A mini for the White Sails (bad guy you can encounter during the game)
- Extra captains (2 extra to choose from, per ship mini)
- Extra captain-specific cards to grant special actions during play
And for an upgrade, you can get the super-pimped set up, with
- 4
Spawn of Kobolos (mini dragon bad guys that you can encounter during the game. This was a cool collaboration with the folks at
Drake: the Dragon Wargame, they gave them an airship, and got a wyvern in return)
- 3 more White Sails, to bring your total up to 4.
- Extra coins (they're all metal, groovy!) and canvas bags
Though the scale has not been specified, the designers have let slip they're interested in pursuing a tabletop miniatures game and that they've made their ships in a scale that would work well with other games. Nice and vague, to be sure, but their size and the images looks like they'd fit in just fine alongside Dystopian Wars minis (i.e., the airships are 2-3 inches long, and look approximately 1:1200)
