So after having read through the commandments of IG army building an wanting to try something that doesn't have a 3+ save in its profile or a starcannon, I came up with the following list. Some of the units may seem a little odd, but I'm just trying to counter the various well-known killer tournament lists out there. I also want to include my Grey Knights because ... well they've been riding the pine pony for a long time and I thought they'd make for some cool units

The special weapon squad, vets and 1st platoon hq all drop. The GKs may drop too if I feel the need. Otherwise, they'll work their way up the field providing alot of anti-horde firepower and such. They aren't very efficient but I like the models, and they provide good protection against psykers, and anti-see council/siren prince stuff. The rough riders are for counter charge, while the Command HQ and 2nd Platoon HQ provide the leadership bubble. 6 line squads seemed about right to me but I don't know so I'm looking for feed back there. The basilisk is another unknown. Is one enough?

Hmm... 330 points for those GK's. Those 330 points will make you lose every game you play against Daemon Bomb armies, or any army with a significant Daemonic percentage.

Sorry... I'm just a Guard player who is of the 'toys = less men and less guns' school of thought. Given the choice between 330 points of GKs and another platoon/pair of Hellhounds, I'll take the platoon/Hellhounds.

Overall the list is solid (although find yourself 12 points and give those SWS's a 2nd Flamer each)... but those GK's concern me.

Why the two squads of melta vets instead of all plasma? It's very rare indeed when I find myself wishing I had melta guns instead of plasma.

yeah... I know the GKs are a major points-sink. I just am trying to use models I already have... GW is expensive enough.

The GKs could be replaced with a cannoness with jump pack, evicerator, book of LD10 and a Cloak of 2+ save. Not only would she be invaluable for making sure my gunline doesn't run away. She's also pretty good for pouncing on dreadnoughts and such. This would leave me with 215 points to spare. This 215 points could go towards the following..

8 Seraphim with 2 hand flamers, Superior w/evicerator for 215 points. This gives me more counter-charge, faith, and mobility for late game objective taking and such. It eliminates the daemon re-spawn problem.

OR

I could drop the GKs for this:

Chimera for 3rd Squad of 1st PLT- multi-laser, heavy bolter, stubber, searchlight 103
Chimera for 3rd Squad of 2nd PLT- multi-laser, heavy bolter, stubber, searchlight 103
Chimera for 2nd PLT HQ- multi-laser, heavy bolter, stubber, searchlight 103
2 flamers for SWS- 18

I'm concerned that 3 chimeras aren't enough AV12 targets to give anyone a problem taking out... What's the consensus on that?

As for the melta vs. plasma debate. I'm not sure. I rationalized it because I felt that melta would be of more use for insta-killing characters... taking down TAU ICs, Hammerheads, insta-killing obliterators and penetrating tanks. It really is a toss up and I could just as easily see myself only taking one melta squad. Once I actually start getting the army together, I'll proxy it and see which works best for me in my metagame.
