So I assembled, based and undercoated everything I have for my Flames of War list ready for tomorrow. Some stuff is still in the mail so are labeled bases of roughly the correct size until they arrive.

I've finished Arkham Origins Batman - I was too wimpy for the blue cloak. - If I ever get the Arkham City Batman I might try that then.

Tonight I'll be playing something, maybe Batman, maybe Dropzone Commander.

While partaking of Miniature Market's large Dust sale to get a small box of models to paint up for a friend (he seems to have a thing for modified/killer gorillas ) I 'accidentally' picked up an Infinity model. Thought I would take advantage of the fact that I was already paying shipping etc etc So I ordered a Shasvastii Cadmus who's some kind of crazy alien drop troop which can bio-scan an enemy to gain it's physical characteristics before deploying and trying to wipe it out

I think I'll have to get some more of these in the future, forgot how many neat combined army models I don't yet have.

I also dug out my bones Kulathi invaders and may work a bit on those to tide me over till the Cadmus arrives.

I had my first game of Batman last night after all. And, it was rather fun, really.

I used my Deadzone terrain, which worked pretty great as a setting for it. - I'd probably add in more scatter terrain though and less of the old GW resin barricades. You kinda want small but man bits of scatter terrain, as opposed to fewer larger / longer ones.

I'm always all about game balance, but I do like games that have characterful play built into the rules interactions.

In this pic we have Nyssa Al Ghul and Batman facing off in the heights of the battlefield, hunting each other using grappling hooks to go from building to building.

Eventually, Batman decided to go for an easier target, gliding down to do a Sneak Attack on Talia.

We called time as we reached after midnight with the game becoming a giant melee with both players having pretty much the worst dice of any game I've played.

We were both rolling so badly that, by the end of the game I had scored exactly one point of damage on the ninja (Out of 5. It was 2, but he recovered one, as Batman doesn't do Wounding damage), Batman had taken 2 wounds (out of 9) and Agent O'Connell of the Gotham PD had taken 1 wound out of 6.

What is especially terrible is that most of the time, we were needing 3+'s.

It's a good, fun game. But it needs some prep beforehand I think, particularly by printing out all the special rules for your gang on a single reference sheet.

We were playing 185 points, I think they recommend for a normal full nights gaming to be 450 points or so.

Compel, have you seen this?
http://bat-builder.com

Handy as a team builder, but also as an in game reference, as you can bring up any unit card and click on the Special Rules to get a summary. Should be faster than flicking through a rulebook!

From what I've seen, the game is very much about objectives than wiping out the enemy; in fact, you'll have to concentrate a lot of force to take out a character. Goons/cops going down is to be expected, but by the sound of it by the time someone like Batman/Bane/Ras goes down you've basically lost already. All theory hammer as I'm still waiting to get my first minis in, but that's the impression I've got from various batreps. Can't wait to get playing, though, as it looks like a superb ruleset!

I think 300-350 is the standard size, at least for tournaments (some teams can't go higher than that, actually, like Watchmen or Court of Owls), 400+ might be better for whole afternoon of playing.

The first shot of the game on the first turn ended up giving Bats 2 Wound Markers. - I don't think it's 'ridiculously' hard to kill someone. However, I'm pretty sure it helps being able to roll a dice result higher than a 2.

Yeah, tournaments are smaller I'm guessing. I was more thinking around an evenings 3 hour or so game.

Nabbed a new cheap brush to fill in till I'm in the mood to buy another good one. Also got a sheet of 3/16 foamboard for general terrain use. Probably won't see much use of either for awhile but was out shopping with the not-as-little-one and picked them up out of convenience.

I tried making a Navigator terminator like WeirdingWay does as he told me to go for it. I've started with wire and a lot of bits glued on, greenstuffing the gaps and making a torso. It's a lot harder than I thought but, so much more satisfying than buying a model.

Frustrating too, as when you do it this way but, run out of bits you improvise. My Navigator went from a terminator styled knight to a TFC looking servitor.

Today on my painting table: a modern "big game hunter" for hunting the mutants of the Chernobyl Zone. Two bandits in trenchcoats, and the Ukrainian version of the Humvee, which I've finally gotten around to painting. I've just bought a Gaz Tigr (Russian humvee style vehicle) as well, so I can see myself doing a comparison between the two country's vehicles at some point. Eventually I can see having enough models for running modern games set in Ukraine at some point, though I'm still firmly aiming to just run games in the alternative history S.T.A.L.K.E.R. setting.

In preparation for my incoming Batman stuff, most of which needs to be black (Bats, Talia, Swat Team and R'as and the League of Shadows) I'm doing a test piece with some 40k minis. The catch? Between the two models, 90% or so will be varying shades/styles of black and white. Should be a fun challenge if nothing else!

I'm also wondering which Batman to choose. I love the new Arkham Knight one, but apart from the Adam West one they all look stunning, and I'm changing my mind every few minutes!

I'm doing my League of Assassins in Shadow grey to avoid that issue. Currently trying to decide whether to make their cuirass metal (probably bronze or tin) or not.

I'd probably suggest getting the dark knight rises one because he's cheap in points, which gives options. Then add in another one which is your favourite.

I'm looking forward to getting the Arkham Knight one, as the metallic armour should look quite striking.

Lots of blue on the Swat team might help with that.

With the stat cards being free, I'm not too fused about having the 'best' Batman; while I'll possibly end up with multiple models at the moment I'm just picking one mini and using whichever stat card fits the list best. DK is probably my favourite version as far as the source material goes, and as R'as and Gordon add in that style as well it makes sense to start with that one.

I think with the ninjas I'll be trying to match the film scheme as much as possible, so laquered black armour (black through blue), black cloth (black through grey) and steel weapons. Not sure I'll be able to get pics tonight, but the test I did to see how varied I could make black actually went quite well; it's obvious which parts are leather vs metal vs cloth ect.

The SWAT guys will definitely have dark blue uniforms, then black body armour/gear.

And that is Ra's Al Neeson completed! Well, mostly. - I'm always open for suggestions. The larger scale has got me half tempted to do eyes but.... urgh... 9 times out of 10 I find they ruin a perfectly good model.

On a sidenote, has anyone else noticed that Liam Neeson looks a helluva lot like Sheogorath?
