Played daemons first time last night at 1850 (I won with 4 models left!).

This might be down to the fact that my opponent was new to daemons but with all the crazy random roles and psychic powers they have to make CONSTANTLY the game took a loooooong time. It's not neccesarily that the game was boring just long. Most of it was spent in his movement phase.

Anyone else found this?

That's because he's new. I play a few daemon opponents (or rather did) who rolled quickly and knew what they were getting with the rolls.
A good idea may be to have a small reference of the warp storm table by your side. It might speed things up. However as your friend plays more with them he'll know what the results mean and when to roll much faster.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Hopefully. It was a fun game. Just took 5 hours!

Highlights include one of my plague marine champions killing lucius the eternal in one round of dueling.

His daemon prince dieing to overwatch fire and a whole unit of nurgle bikers with a nurgle lord on bike attached dieing in one turn of fire due to some extreme rolling.

Food for a Giant Fenrisian Wolf

The fang, Fenris.

It may just because I'm a devoted space wolf, but I like playing against daemons in cc, my wolves and chainblades versus their blades and ugly faces. But if you do want to take them on a little easier, field some strong psykers and long range units. Doesn't seem to take all that long for them to beat my ass into the ground though. Lol

I find I get faster and faster at all the pre-game stuff.

But if you field a lot of psykers it does bog down the movement phase.

Well, experienced players can play rather fast. In one of the recent RTTs, I faced Daemons (Slaanesh) with my Necrons. The opponent knew what he was doing. Its a matter of routine to keep all rewards and powers in mind.

My first experience playing against Daemons was pretty much the same. "Does this rolling never end?" I presume it gets more tolerable after players learn the rules. But personally I'd never play Daemons myself. There is just way too much random rolling. Of course the old book had that too, in form of Deep strike rolls.

Yeh we spent 5/6th of the game in his phase as he rolled and flicked through the book. At some points I was thinking hes got to be making some of this up.

I just don't think its great design from GW to make the army like that. Its very sluggish to play and a lot of statline changes to remember form turn to turn. I wouldn't recomend playing with them or against them if you are a new player cos its just gets confusing.

As has been mentioned, it's just because he's new to the army.

I know that personally, it hasn't taken me that long to memorise the main things like the Warpstorm chart's effects, while I use the psychic power cards to avoid constant book flipping.
As for the random Gifts, after a few games I think most Daemon players like myself simply hit on a preferred combo that we try to roll up and thus it'll lead to either, "yep got what I wanted" or a very quick, "nope, just taking weapon/artifact 'X/Y/Z."

There's nothing really wrong I find with the overall design of the army, it's actually really fitting and keeping in character with what Daemons are!
But it is definitely not the type of army you can pick up and instantly master the main bits like you can with say Space Marines or Orks or Necrons.

Daemons as Allies don't have Warpstorm, however? So if you play CSM or Traitor Guard w/ Daemons, it's not so bad then.
